Title: Bridge Humbucker to pair with Trilogy Suite Neck?
Post by: Vintage Metal on May 29, 2012, 06:33:44 PM
I was originally going to get a SSS setup, but decided on a HSS.

I really like the look of the Crunch Lab or Tone Zone and wondered if a Holy Diver could get me on the way? I really want something versatile & organic with great leads.

I hear great things about the Holy Diver, but if I'm honest, I'm really not too impressed with the soundclips. They sound really muffled/dull on the Prog clip, as to say something like the Nailbomb's Prog clip. Is it just me? lolz.

From the HD's EQ I see it has a smooth high end, but I read on the forum it still has some attack in the highs which would be great for me. Also is it more upper mid or lower mid orientated? I'm after something which has weight in front of the notes (I think that's lower mids that do that?)

Thanks :D

EDIT: Output aside, how does the Black Dog compare to the Holy Diver? It's just the metal clip sounds fantastic and is starting to make me rethink things.

The Holy Diver would work really well with the Trilogy Suites to. In terms of characteristics and output it'd be a much better match for the Trilogy Suites.
The Black Dog is amazing too but I think that the Holy Diver would work better. Wow... lots of recommending Holy Divers today...

Don't trust the clips because it really depends on what is being used to record. In this case all humbuckers are recorded in the same 70s Les Paul custom goldtop directly into Axe FX. Quite different from your rig.
And Definitely don't use the EQ as a basis for any sot of decision. EQs are just trickery TBH.

The HD will perform very well in a strat and splits good too.

How does the HD back off with the Volume pot too?

If you install a treblebleeder you will keep the highs as you turn the volume down. HD should clean up good. So does my Crawler.

HDs clean up very nicely with the volume knob for a bridge pickup.
