Title: A big thanks to Twinfan
Post by: d1dsj on June 08, 2012, 08:35:40 PM
I just met Dave for the first time as he dropped off his Dual Terror that I've bought for my youngest son. It was a pleasure meeting Dave, great guy and very knowledgeable and best of all he even bought his PRS ME (my favourite guitar on any forum!) for me to have a play on! So as well as doing a great deal on the amp... he even delivered it! My son will be thrilled when he comes home tomorrow so many thanks mate, cheers.  :D

Excellant - Dave is a bit of a star!

It's certainlty been a pleasure having him visit when he's been working down south

I hope your son enjoys that Orange amp

Cheers guys - you're too kind

I hope your son enjoys the amp, Don  :)  I'm glad you liked the Modern Eagle, and just to confirm again it's NOT for sale and isn't likely to be!

Nope!

As I said to Don, the ME is my #2 best guitar.  Second only to "The Green Manalishi"...

I'm glad you had a good time with PRS's unofficial UK PR department! I've never met Dave but he has cost me a fair few quid in my conversion to PRS guitars over the last year or so. :)

Dave, that green sig does look special, very very classy but as I said it's just too shiny... but I'd take the faded blue one in a heartbeat!

As for the Dual Terror, Matthew has been playing through it today and is still playing now through my old Orange cab and he's loving it! So, thanks again mate and he sends his thanks too.  8)

Indeed it is.

Dave is a great guy. He's not given me that red sparkle tele yet though.

Since we're having a bit of a Twinfan appreciation thread, I'm happy to give Dave a big thumbs up - he sent me some valves FOC earlier in the year, I was actually very touched at his generosity.

+1 to everybody. Don't have any personal experience with Twin, but it's great seeing all this. Keep it up!

Thanks to Twinfan, I have added four sets of pickups to the parts mountain under my bed.   :P

(All obtained at very reasonable prices, I must add!  And one set was for free, most kindly.  :)  )

Why am I not surprised you still haven't used those pickups Philly?

Will anyone be surprised?

I do know exactly where the Cold Sweats and TV Classics are going.... it's just a matter of getting round to it.

The Squier/Tonerider Tele pickups will end up in one of my Warmoth projects, almost certainly.

The Emeralds.... still looking for a home, mostly because I insist the guitar must have gold hardware.  Constantly pondering that one!

If you ever want to sell the Emeralds I may be interested as I'm thinking about taking the RYs out of my Tokai Love Rock with gold hardware

I'll let you know, but as of now I'm planning to keep them!  I have a couple of ideas, but they involve spending money unfortunately!

Despite all this good will to him Dave can improve on his performance though. He drove me to Guitar Village a few months back but didn't buy me anything!

Dave - that sh!tty 70s strat we saw with the plasticised body. It sold:

10.2lbs as well. HEFTY!!!!

Oi Ian, what you saying about my Strat???!!!

But seriously.....

A 10 pound Strat?  Ouch!!  :x

I like the Antigua finish, but all those bits of flaking paint look nasty.  And what the hell is going on with the neck finish, especially between the 6th and 7th frets?  :?

I really wouldn't have had the balls to sell that one if it was my shop! It looked absolutely terrible in the flesh. |I think the finish on the neck had been custom designed by a previous owner.

I'd find that weight heavy for an LP type let alone a strat!!

I don't think it's unusual for those '70s ash Strats to be that kind of weight.  Sadly!

Of course, to be fair it wasn't just bad quality control, the theory at the time was "the heavier the better" in terms of sustain etc.  Hence all those Yamaha SGs and things with really heavy brass hardware.

T'would be churlish of me not to join in the general good feeling of the "we love Twinfan" thread so here I am. Blimey a 10lb Strat? Mine is a 1970's Strat and is just right but the finish was never top notch and happily the heavy usage over the years has taken the emphasis off the poor workmanship in the upper horn.

"sigh" ok, i'll join in too.  i have a lovely little Squier telecaster, modded to esquire specs, a Martamp Orion (the very first one made!), and a very special Gibson SG  that came from Dave.  he was a pleasure to deal with.

it seems half the forum have populated their collections with Dave's cast-offs!  :)

I was just thinking 'ha! I've not bought ANYTHING off Dave!'

But I was wrong, I got my Carbon Copy from him. And GAS'd oh so hard for the Rev. Billy Les Paul and La Cabronita.

So when are the Twinfan t-shirts gonna be available? - we should totally do this

I think the PRS love must be rubbing off too, I'm GASing like mad for a Mira.

It does seem like a lot of my ex-stuff is been shared across the forum.  Mind you, there's been a lot of ex-stuff...

Not trying to steal Dave's limelight here, but I think I was the first on the forum with a Mira.

(.....but them he went and trumped me with that nice vintage orange one... with birds!  I can't hope to compete in the Twinfan league....    )

I think you were Phil - it was a black one?

My orange Mira was my first PRS, now look where I am

It was indeed a black one.  In retrospect, I wish I'd bought a translucent colour, I was always jealous of that orange one!

My first PRS was a fairly battered old EG, which was good but nothing really special - that's probably why it was a long time before I bought another!
