Title: VHII Bridge - 'Hazard Phaser' does Eruption
Post by: Bainzy on February 13, 2006, 09:29:18 PM
Thought I'd post a clip of the phaser pedal that's been discussed in the off topic room.

(thread: http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2784)

The playings rushed and sloppy as I'm too busy to learn the solo properly tonight but hopefully should illustrate the tone of the phaser pedal a bit. I'm not going to bother recording something like Eruption properly until I've got power scaling in my amp, then I'll be able to get some power amp distortion too that'll accurately cop the tone.

The guitar is my VHII equipped custom guitar, into the 'hazard phaser', into the Marshall plexi, everything on 10 except the PPIMV (on 3).

Then it's Greenback G12M reissue speakers > SM57 > MIC100 preamp > DAW > bit of reverb, delay and home studio magic!

about £40, plus whatever paint cost is - £10-15?

You can get a BYOC phaser kit from the UK distributor now, but it's £55. I guess at least you won't have to wait as long for it.

its

buildyourownclone.com

and the UK dealer is

G & T Guitars

G & T are really cool actually, especially now they've started to stock Mid-Fi stuff, which is very cool stuff...although not necessarily very useful!

I have the phaser two, its pretty cool, although I don't always use phase that much.

Sorry I haven't voted for you yet Bainzy, I completely forgot, but I'll go and vote for you now! :D

www.buildyourownclone.com is the website mine was from, they only sell to the UK through their distributor now, which is:

http://www.gntguitars.com/buildyourownclone.htm

sh*t, the phaser is £79 on there, I was thinking of the tremelo. Either way it's still a good price for it, as it's better than the MXR EVH90. It's exactly the same circuit as the vintage script logo ones, but with an added LED, true bypass switch and 9v adaptor socket. I think Willo got one last year on my recommendation that was prebuilt by buildyourownclone.com

ha...see above!

One thing though, I know it's the exact same circuit as the old script logo ones, but how close are the components used?

Also, cos I'm lazy I went pre-built. I don't know if you can still do that through G & T - but they are helpful guys so you never know. The pre-built paint colours are much cooler now too.

sortof - it's halfway between a SuperLead and SuperBass Marshall - I reworked the circuit to one of the Marshall 1959's with serial numbers in the 12000 range. Those amps were made in the transitional period when the SuperLead circuit was evolving, so still had a lot of SuperBass values. Consuequently the amp sounds fat but has a fair bit of attack too, especially with my guitar's mid boost control.

cheers, I think it sounds pretty close considering it's just the trem arm and not an echoplex!

just dumped a pair of VHII's into my strat with an Irish tour in the middle..
took me about 2 hrs to find the perfect hight as it did with the Miracle Man set i've got in my ESP, never known pickups been so responsive to how close they are to the body it's madness lol.

Im happy with the VHII's totally different to the MM's much more midrange and a totally different voicing but i like them a lot.

Though they have, as you say, different voicing, what would you think about a combination of Miracle Man bridge and VHII neck, on a LP like guitar?

Bainzy, As you seem to be the master of VHII on this site, could you post a clip of the VHII neck, please? :D (If it doesn't bother you, of course!)
I'm looking for clips of it on clean settings (chords and arpeggios) 'cause I can't find any clean clip of it on this forum. I've already listened to your cover of "Knocking on heaven's door", so I can figure how it sounds in the Slash style... really great!
How would you compare it with a Cold Sweat and an Abraxas, (in the neck position)?

In the end, If you're not satisfied with your playing on Eruption, I wonder when are you satisfied with your playing? awsome job man.

Thanx.
Fab.
