This is something I've been discussing on and off for a while with a friend.
This is the kinda thing we'll be doing

That is his old band that never really went anywhere and seen as he did all the writing for that and I did for my old band we have plenty of material to get going with!
here's a more recent (not 10 year old clip) of his vocal/guitar/bass performance in his recently deceased motorhead tribute

Tell me about it, same here :(

Best of luck with the band. With two writers you should be able to get something going nicely.

I listened to both clips. Great stuff, you guys are going to have fun which is what it's all about as far as I'm concerned. Keep us posted.

Cheers guys!
I just sat and learnt Burn the cross by ear which is a first for me as ive never actually learnt anything by ear in the past.
Should hopefully be having a jam tomorrow with Tom and letting him try out one of my amps.

Learning by ear is the only way I know. How do you normally do it ?

Guitar pro tabs/ascII tabs or its something that I have written personally.
I'm a very visual player so prefer to see things.

Best of luck!

Nice one - good luck with :D

Had a jam yesterday. I forgot how great it is to play with another guitarist. Especially when they're a lot more skilled than myself. I learnt a few tricks and techniques whilst I was there and we had a fairly productive time.

Playing with others is very rewarding if they are more advanced than you. It might seem obvious but the enjoyment of it is always remarkable. I have two mates that I play with occasionally and I always come away with more than I went in with.

+1
That's one of the things I miss about playing with other people - especially when I regard them as "more advanced" than me, but it actually happens with people that regard me as more advanced - you always see or hear something that you hadn't thought of on your own.
Now that I concentrate on playing by myself and recording, I am finding I get a little bit of this from the websites I publish on (alonetone and songcrafters). I listen to other people's stuff as closely as I do mine, and I go "WOW! is that all you have to do..." and before you know it I'm doing it too :D. There's an awful lot of very talented people out there doing the same sort of thing as me, across a wide range of musical styles. And, although you're not in the same room, you can kind of pick up tricks and techniques in the same way (from the weirdest sources sometimes ).
It's not quite like that buzz of being in the same room with someone and interracting in real-time, though. But personally I'm kind of happy now to forego that buzz in return for not experiencing all the other angst of having to rely (and be relied on by) other musicians to turn your ideas into reality.
Really good to hear that you're getting going again :D. I wasn't exactly worried, but I was kinda feeling for you (and for Monsieur Brow and others in the same boat).

I've had that problem in the past, but a trip to the GUM clinic cleared it up in a few days

Oh dear, I suppose I asked for that didn't I? Mind you, I think I'm ok as Afghan Dave hasn't commented so we'll just let it lie eh chaps?
