Can anybody recommend me a guitar maker that provides payment flexibility over the course of the design period? It's just I really want my own custom Les Paul within the next couple years, and wondered whether I could pay monthly as it's being built. I'd have to do it over a year or two though.
Thanks

I've seen him post on here a few times. I'll have to shoot a message asking about payment options then. Thanks for the recommendation. I see he's got a model called the Lions. Has anyone had experience with these?
-
I don't actually own a Feline, but I've been to Jonathan's workshop several times and seen many of his guitars up close. Very fine workmanship!
The Lion is the Feline "flagship" model, if you like.... it's a Les Paul (obviously), but with some cool refinements like a much-improved neck joint.
I've often been very tempted to order something myself, but my main problem is just deciding on specs - if money was no object I could probably come up with ideas for two or three guitars, but I can't seem to compress everything I want into just one.
There are several BKP forum members who own one or more Feline guitars, have a search and you should find plenty of info. Also Jonathan is a very good photographer, so there are lots of nice pictures! :D
-
Thanks for that bit of info.I'll have a good look now
-
You would not regret going with Feline. I have one of his rather early pieces (well, sorta half time-ish as it is about 12 years old). It was specially made for a Jazz player and it is a headless, semihollow, downsized les paul with just a neck PU (made to be carry on for planes). The quality is head and shoulders above everything else I own and most I have played. And keep in mind, he had 12 years to improve since then which he undaubtly did. Plus he is a very nice bloke!
-
Well I see he's a BKP dealer too, so that should fun when that stage arrives. Just a shame it's going to take about 2 years to get it all paid off. But I'm sure it will be worth it :D
-
I bought a 2nd hand custom build Feline Lion from Jon. It's bloody amazing.
I think there have been enough pics of the purple precious, so I'll leave it for you to search for it ;)
-
Is that the one with black hardware?
-
Yup (http://www.juansolo.demon.co.uk/misc/Guitars/poiplelion1-l.jpg) and here's the back (http://www.juansolo.demon.co.uk/misc/Guitars/poiplelion2-l.jpg)
-
That's a gorgeous guitar. I was surprised with the colour of the back though. Was expecting black, but I like the wood finish. How do you find upper fret access when standing up?

A reminder, if one were needed, of how great that colour looks with the ebony board and black hardware!

Tis excellent. The access you get with the Feline neck joint is stonking.
-
How smooth do you find the back of the neck too? I just hate sticky, glossy necks. My current Les Paul I had to sand down the gloss.
-
I was at the Feline shop on saturday as my Strat is having some major work done.
Whilst I was there I played the Feline 20th Anniversary Lion, the Lion Special and the Lion Supreme (the ferrari red model on the site).
They were so good that I'm giving serious consideration to getting one made for me. They are the best LP type guitars I've ever played and they sound amazing. The necks are glossy but their so slick that I don't think it would be much of a problem if you prefer satin necks. The upper fret access is as easy as my PRS Singlecut and they're just incredible.
I've bought a guitar from Feline before and Jonathan was quite happy with me paying it off over a period of 3 months. I know he's happy for some one to even take 12 months or even more than that if need be to pay off what you really want.
-
+1 for Jon's work, Feline are the cat's whiskers 8)
-
I've got one and it's the best guitar I've ever played, including a few prs and Gibsons.

We happily run a scheme where the guitar can be paid for over the build time of the guitar .
Usually that means over 9-12 months , but we have often gone as far as 2 years.
Our normal preference is to pay a deposit and then make regular payments after that.
this can either be like a standing order from the bank or calling us to make a payment with a card.
Many choose the latter as it gives us a chance to catch up and chat about the project and it's progress.
this is a typical neck joint of which the chaps are speaking of

We still have 2 of these babies in stock if anyone wants to make me an offer.....(the purple one was for another one of the forum guys here)

I'm looking for something like this, but with an Ebony Fingerboard and possibly zebra pickups :). Any chances of any pics of red ones you have made?

Jonathan, I hate you so much right now....stop it!!! (The maple one looks better though).
It is just torture, cause right now I could not even afford one with a payment plan.

I can't actually see the Feline pictures on my work computer.
But I do remember exactly what those guitars look like!
-
I've played that Blue Lion, absolute stunner of a guitar. I've been down to the workshop a couple of times and played a few other pieces too, all killer! The headstock break on my Les Paul was even patched up a treat too :d
Highly recommended.

Yeah got a completely custom Feline myself, can't recommend them enough.
If you hate sticky necks (I do too) maybe ask him to do it in oil, not a LP style but here's mine:

Wow! That's stunning, as are the lions. And since i have always favoured Les Paul style guitars... I'm seriously considering getting a lion once I can afford it! I've got a pretty long GAS list but these just shot right to the top!

I saw that in the workshop a while ago, very cool combination of features! :D
(Hope you don't mind me handling your guitar....!)

I love those purple and turquoise models (I can see the pics again now I'm at home).
But these are my absolute favourites:

Agreed, plus there was a lion cub a few years back with a similar finish that just made me want a Feline Lion so much. Serious saving on the cards.

This is the solid Ferrari red one that Steve mentioned earlier

This a nice red Tabby - that I believe one of the forum users now owns

Jonathan.
Is that Ferrari red lion smaller than a normal LP type guitar? The fretboard looks really wide compared to usual.
It's VERY nice though
-
No - it's all exactly the same
I think it's an optical illusion caused by the lack of inlays and the fact that the binding glimmers under the strong studio flash lighting.
