Hi, I'm new... first of all excuse me for my bad English... anyway I'm thinking about buying a Mayones Regius 7 (swamp ash)... But I've doubt about the choice of PU... I'm sure about BareKnuckle but which models? Personally, I've play just a couple of Nailbomb on an Ibanez RG (I don't remember the exact model) and I was really impressed, but given the extensive BK catalog I'd like to know something more about other humbucker (Aftermath, Crawler, Coldsweat etc.) ... In short I would like to know the differences especially with the Nailbomb.
I play Progressive Metal (Symphony X, Dream Theater), so I need at the bridge a really aggressive and definited P.U.... at neck a PU with rich tones, warm and "fat" for the clean/ "acoustic" parts (Opeth style) but that sounds good even on solos...
P. S. What do tou suggest a calibrated set or mix 2 different Humbucker to the neck and bridge?
Thanx to all PDT_003

you want a nailbomb bridge/cold sweat neck set
there are other great sounding models, but for your styles and guitars wood, this set is hard to beat
-
Eric was faster but when I read the post I was immediately thinking Alnico Nailbomb bridge for the bridge position and Cold Sweat neck for the neck position.
Cheers Stephan

thanx guys for your very fast repley...
so you are agree for the Nailbomb (bridge) and Cold Sweat (neck) :D ...But If I've ubnderstand you say both in Alnico V (also the nailbomb at bridge) it's right?
could you tell me more about the coldsweat? I'll use it also combined with piezo
I'd like a P.U. that sound on clean similar to '57 (gibson) but more aggressive for the solos... the coldsweat could be the right choice?
-
The Alnico Nailbomb bridge model is very tight and extremely aggressive; far more than you'd ever expect from an alnico pickup. The Cold Sweat neck is great for fluid, fast lead solos. Think of Dave Murray and you're probably not a million miles away.

You got the right recommendations already here, so little to add.

Defenitely a nailbomb/cold sweat set as the others say :D
-
+1 to everyone's suggestion
-
by the way, that was Chris Broderick's favorite set back in Nevermore and Jag Panzer times
that set was also quite popularized by Joe Kataldo's lessons on youtube (he's in this forum too)

Excuse for my delay... anyway thax to you all guys... it a plebiscite :D, Vox Populi Vox Dei!
I've decided I'll mount a Nailbomb/coldsweat set (both alnico) on my first Regius!
Stay Prog!!!!

Hi guys!
here I am again
Unfortnately I had to postpone the purchase of the Regius and in the meantime I had a new question!
For the bridge I'm sure about the Nailbomb Alnico5 but for the neck I was thinking about the Rebel Yell... what do you think about this PU and what is the differences with the Cold Sweat. I listened the samples on the BK site (in particolar Clean 2) and It's simply spectacular is exactly the clean sound I have in mind. What do you think... it will good also for the Hi gain solos and it's good for the woods of the regius?
Thanx again... and Thanks for your patience

The Cold Sweat neck and the Rebel Yell neck are quite similar. Either would work well with the A-Bomb.
Cheers Stephan

You might want to check out the Emerald neck too. I think it was forum member slartibartfast42 that wrote a review not so long ago saying that it was close to the cold sweat but he liked it a bit more.

Hi Stephan!
Thanx for repley... The RY seems to me a little bit more open and very well balanced with a little bit more character (IMHO). The tones are richer and its clearity is awesome... I don't know if its a my impression but it seems stands out most the wood!!! If It works well with swamp ash body and it's sound good also for the hi gain solos I'd prefer it on the CS.
@Mr.Air: the emerald, I like it but it seems to me too "sharpy" and less balanced...

The emerald isnt sharp at all... :/
Maybe you were listening to clips of the emerald bridge, which is very bright. But the emerald neck is Alnico IV so its very smooth yet very articulate and balanced.

I mean that the Emerald (neck) compared to the rebel yell (neck) for me is brigther and a little bit less balanced (IMHO)

Could be the case but it's unlikely... :/
The RY is just as bright as the emerald and the Alnico V magnet in it will make the RY have an even sharper top end.
You've got to take into account that people use different amps which makes a big difference in sound and even the guitar woods and construction make a reasonable difference.

Just to clarify: the quotes cited in the above two posts are not mine.

I'm sorry... I've just correct my post
anyway I have done my comparison exclusively with the clean samples of the BK Official site... I don't know how they rec the samples but I think that they make it trying to preserve the differences between the various P.U.s... so I repeat, listening the Emerald (neck) and the Rebell Yell (neck) I had the impression that the RY is less bright and more balanced but if you tell me that it isn't correct I'll keep it in mind
thanx again

Have a look around the players section too, many great samples there. Should help a lot.
