I like AC/DC, Soundgarden, Zeppelin, Nirvana, basically anything that rocks. And I'm building a Jazzmaster because the curves are comfortable - I don't like Gibsons.
Problem is, I don't typically like humbucker guitars because the necks are too muddy and the bridges feel kinda notch-y like a c--ked wah... but I'm pretty sure all BKPickups would avoid that, right?
I guess I'm looking for a versitile pickup with an even response, I guess. Maybe a Mule/Mule, what do you think?

what are the woods?
if not something overly bright, you might enjoy a riff raff set
they can sound quite singlecoilish in terms of clarity and have that spanky picking attack, but with a humbucker low end thickness

Ash.
Also, I'm looking at the Mississippi Queens... I keep coming back to p-90's.

For a twist, you might want to look at the VHII too. It rocks in a good hot PAF-way, cleans up great, is dynamic and articulate (screams when you dig in, you can steer it with the pickattack). I have one in an ash Fender American Series HSS-strat and I get wicked tones with it.

I think MQs would be a good choice and they'll be somewhat closer to the original jazzmaster pickups than humbuckers.

MQ's would be great for this.
