So... Has anyone tried one? Seeing some of my favourite bands like soundgarden and green day and RHCP using similar guitars (mainly the high-end Pro Jet) had given me gas for one... And my search for a guitar to put TV Jones powertrons in makes this an even better fit.
Let the posting begin!

I had an Electromatic Pro Jet for a while that I picked up pretty cheaply.
I never really bonded with it and couldn't make it's sound work for me in the end, so I ended up selling it. Was a nice playing guitar though :)
The pickups in it were a non standard size to anything else, so they weren't upgradeable without routing the top of the guitar too.

Oh really? I was sure that the pickups were the standard filtertron size.
Well, I'll probably go to try it out on the weekend.
Do you by any chance have any experience with the high end Gretsch power jet?

TV Jones make mounting kits for the Electromatics.
When Brow referred to the pickups "non-standard", I think that meant non-standard with respect to "normal" guitar pickups.

I'm no expert on those types of pickups so maybe they are standard size for Filtertrons etc. They looked different to others of a similar type I'd seen before though.

Yeah, I that's what it must've been.
I didn't have the guitar long enough to really go too deep into looking for replacement pickups etc.

Ah, ok. Great!

Anyone else have any experience with this guitar or something of the like.

had one 6 or so years ago was great.....maybe should have kept....tried new one was very light didnt like at all

The cheapies don't do it for me. The highend Gretsches have interesting sounds, but the necks are not really my cup of tea. Says a a guy that mainly plays strats and tele's.

Why didn't you like it? Was it the weight or something else?
-
the weight, didnt sound or feel as nice. tried my old one (mate has it) as thought may have been bit of misty time syndrome, nope his wipes floor with new ones

Have recently bought a new Pro Jet electromatic. I am very impressed with the build quality... except for the tuners, which although actually working well and keeping it in tune, "feel" very cheap.
Tonally, I really like it. And it needs to be stated that the newer Pro Jets have Filtertrons in them, which by all accounts are a huge improvement to the previous mini-humbuckers, which were almost universally disliked.
I bought this guitar with the thought in my mind that I would probably upgrade to TV Jones p'ups but I really am so impressed with these stock ones, I will keep them. A really nice "inbetween" between single coils and traditional humbuckers. Lots of character and "spank" when I want it.
Having a chambered body, the guitar is also very light, which is a nice treat as pretty much all my favourite guitars in the past have weighed a ton.
For the price, I'd certainly be recommending anyone to keep the pro jet in the reckoning.

I tried one out, and I wasn't very impressed with it. Just didn't play like I thought it would, and felt kinda cheap IMO.
