I have a Fender Jagmaster copy that is currently 3 single coils (Lindy Fralin- not sure what model sounds vintage 60's ish). I am looking to put a bridge humbucker in that will go well with the single coils with a punchy clean tone that can handle fuzz and distortion well, but doesn't give a massive volume boost when switching between the pickups.
Can someone please point me in the right direction? Think funk but with a cool hard rock/fuzz ability, and the guitar pretty much sounds and plays like a strat due to the bridge and pickup set up.

Have a look at the HSS sets in the shop, as you know they will work together well.
My hunch would be either Mule Mothers Milk or one step up in hotness Abraxas Irish Tours. Great cleans, able to take gain and should do the style you ask. Beware that I donīt know much about Funk though....so I might be very off xD

I assume that you are keeping the middle and neck single coils, so you are looking for a humbucker only. Big problem is always the volume change when selecting humbucker to single, or vise versa. I can't see why the Mule can't do what you ask for.

Like Kichi says, a humbucker will always sound a bit louder and balsier then most single coils.
If you keep the single coils in your guitar, I think a VHII would be a good option. The VHII performs well in bolt-on Fender-type guitars and can handle drive/fuzz/distortion very well (great rockpickup), but cleans up great too, to a near singlecoil-like quality. It's a very dynamic and articulate pickup and delivers the punch.
If you want to replace all pickups, a VHII + Mothers Milk would be a good option. For funky stuff I would pick these, or perhaps Sultans. I guess you want to play funky stuff with the singlecoils. A humbucker is not really suitable for that.

There, fixed it. Donīt wanne take false credit.
Also Telerocker brings up some valid points. Just ignore most of my post and listen to him. He knows far more than me anyway.

Thanks guys. It is between the VHII and the Mule (Tim recommended). I just need to listen to more clips online. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be many clips of the mule in a strat type guitar.

I would go VHII, with a split on the second position for doing funk with the middle single coil.

Yeah, my mistake, I meant Darrenw5094. Anyway, any comment can add some useful things. My knowledge is limited too.

The Mule-bridge is awesome in mahogany, but even in all mahogany Saint Blues the bridge is quite crispy. For funk I use the middleposition. In a Fender-type guitar (alder or ash) the Mule could be a tad on the bright side. Because of this I recommended the VHII. I would not dare to argue with Tim though, just share my experiences as I have both. But if crispiness and not overpowering the singlecoils s exactly what you want in a bridgehumbucker, the Mule would be a good choiche.
