Title: Pups for an SG Special
Post by: Jawnfish on July 17, 2012, 02:52:08 AM
Hey guys! First post here.

I read the other posts regarding pickup options for an SG, and I'm wondering if I'm on the right track.

Guitar is your regular SG Special, Rosewood on Mahogany/Mahogany.. I use it for rocky stuff and metal, but also play Jazz and love the beautiful cleans.  I've heard good things about Painkillers in SGs (and I love Pin's tone... though SG!=Blackmachine, and he doesn't really play clean), but I'm really leaning towards the Rebel Yell / VHII combo. Saw it in PeteyG's Regius 8 before he swapped 'em for Aftermaths, and again in the Safety Fire's tele Wirebirds. Seems like a good way to still be able to achieve awesome, tight metal tones in the Bridge and smooth beautiful cleans on the neck... and although Aftermaths sound great, they seem to me more of a 1-trick deal. I play my fair share of djenty prog metal, but I have a 7 string for that  :D

Never owned BKPs before, though. How far am I from the mark?

+1 for the Cold Sweats. They are the ideal match for a big lump of mahogany.

I also like Cold Sweats in an SG, although I'm not really familiar with the bands you mentioned!
