I'm making a kit amp and the only bit I can't do, mainly as I lack any sort of workshop/tools rather than the inclination, is the cab. Now I know the cab I'm going for, indeed the first two pictures are of the actual cabs that the bloke who'll be making it has done for others, but I cannot decide on the finish:
I'll be fitting vintage fender white knobs so it'll be the full blonde look if I go that way. Making option 1 the traditional choice.
Option 2 is simply to match my other kit, which is black.
Finally I just really like the burgundy and black (you'll have to imagine the grille cloth is black) cabs I've seen.
Throw a vote in, help me decide.

I'd go with matching your cabs - None More Black.
-
cant beat a bit of blonde :D...............and oxblood as well
-
i'd go for the wine myself. we have different coloured guitars and pedals, why not different coloured amps? and it is quite elegant looking
-
A difficult one ! :)
I voted Black in the end, because the cosmetic of black / chrome/ black on that shape looked like it would be visually and physically more resilient to time and fashion changes.
I genuinely did like the Oxblood - and thought it said 'Boutique' more than the other two ; redolent of Boogie and those horrendously expensive bespoke amps that get thrown at the Larry Carltons and John Mayers of this world.
However, the minute you put a black grille with that Oxblood, it then seems to fall between two chairs somehow. Oxblood with the cloth on the picture ( or similar straw / brown coloured cloth ) would work - and look the part of Boutique, but as Dave said, the black also uniformly leans into what you already sell - and is an enduring classic in it's own right.
The Blonde was also nice, but I felt it would limit it's appeal to exsisiting 'Blonde' users. Here again, I cannot imagine it looking as gorgeous as black would after many years of wear and tear.
All lovely stuff though. 8)

Is that an Amp Maker kit? I recorded with their 5w Marshall-y head over the weekend. I was so impressed I want to learn to solder and make one myself!

Yup, decided it was about time I'd done an amp ;)
It was a toss up between this and the PP-18 which you can also do the voltage drop knob with as it runs the same transformer. If I like this one I might end up doing it anyway ;)

either blonde or wine for me
-
Just to confuse things I'd go Blonde/ Black grille.
-
I like the wine red. There should be more amps in slightly wacky colours.
-
Yes, wine is nice. It really has that high class air about it.
-
Blonde & Oxblood is my fav, but you should choose what fits your cabs best.
-
A toss up between Blonde and Black- went for Blonde in the end.

Hmmmm, I appear to have just ordered a pair of 10" speakers...
So do I stay with the head & cab? Or go for something like this:

Definately "something like that". :D
A lovely low to moderate wattage ( but 100% tasty ) combo is going to appeal ( plus be mod-able / tunable to all styles on your workbench ) - AND be something to throw into the back of a car for gigging. Instantly buyable and collectable. I am thinking just how 'right' it seemed when Matamp did a signature combo for Adrian Ingram ; you didn't have to be a 'Jazzer' to want one. That also changes my vote straight to Oxblood or Blonde, the Blonde one pictured having immediate WOW factor. 8)

Barry's a top bloke - he's incredibly helpful and his amps are great - I've got an se5a - awesome amp. I will build an 18w one day but I've been looking at the double six - I'm very interested to hear how it comes out...
Ps - blonde is good ! Head and cab !
-
Another "Blonde head & cab" 8) !
-
women : brunettes
beers: brown or amber
amps : definately blonde
-
White with more white perhaps?

Love the blonde, but the suggestion of white sounds good too
