Title: Fitting a neck. Sand the body/neck?
Post by: James_B_K_P on July 20, 2012, 11:17:45 PM
Can anyone answer this question? I've searched what feels like the whole internet and as usual nobody can give a definitive answer. I need to sand about 1mm to fit the neck into the pocket. Question is, do I sand the body or the neck? The body is an unfinished Ibanez Iceman/Destroyer Hybrid and the neck is an Ibanez Wizard 3. Cheers for any help :)

When I had to do it to build my Mk II Telemaster I sanded the pocket as I had more faith that the neck I had was the "correct" size. It was a Warmoth neck and the body came from MJT. I also felt I had more control on keeping edges straight and proper by sanding the pocket. My two cents.

Thanks Andrew! I already went ahead and sanded the neck, I got impatient! I read somewhere that it's important to keep the walls of the neck pocket perfectly level and it's pretty hard to do when sanding. It's a super tight fit though and feels great. The neck was second hand anyways!
