That's about it really. I think I'm a little bit out of the loop with new releases.

I think I'm a little bit out of the loop with new releases.

Likewise - I no longer have any idea about forthcoming releases unless it's mentioned in a guitar magazine, or I get an email from Amazon or something.

I quite often don't realise a band I like have released a new album until months later - sometimes I even find they've released more than one since I last looked!

Anyway, it's been a decent year already for boring old farts - new Rush and Wishbone Ash albums.  Apart from those and a couple of CDs from "modern" bands, I've just been buying back-catalogue stuff.

I had this the other day when I looked on Marty Friedmans website and realised he's released 3 albums since the last one that I bought!

I'm looking forward to testament which HMV started selling early and sold out within 30 minutes yesterday! My friend was lucky enough to get a copy though and it is sounding excellent especially as the Kemper was used on the majority of the tracks.

It's rumoured the next Metallica will come late this year but they said that in 2006 and Death Magnetic took 2 more years after that so i'm not holding my breath.

Similar with Richie Kotzen, he's very prolific - I don't even try to keep up!

I wouldn't waste my breath on a new Metallica album anyway, unless it's a major return to form!  :P

I might check out this new Testament album, it's been a while since I heard any of their stuff.

Now that will be an interesting listen, if only to hear how well the Kemper holds up. Think I might have to grab a copy too!

I don't think it's all Kemper buy Andy Sneap said it was used on a lot of the tracks but didn't say where/what for

I think im the only person in the world who prefers everything post black album to everything before it by a long shot.

I thought DM was great other than the clipping and cr@ppy drumming and I even enjoyed St Anger too

I'm sure we've discussed it before, but I hated St Anger, to the extent of feeling almost insulted by how bad it was.  Death Magnetic..... I've only listened to it a couple of times, it seemed a bit better but I just couldn't be bothered, there was nothing about it which grabbed my attention.

When you say "everything post black album", do you include Load and ReLoad?  Most people slag them off, but I think there's a lot of extremely good stuff on them, they just needed a bit of editing.

(But anyway, I know how you feel, I'm the only person in the world who prefers Chinese Democracy to Appetite for Destruction....  )

Sorry, wandering OT as usual.....

I think we have discussed this before. And yes Load/ReLoad are my two favourite Metallica albums even though to some they are the most hated. There are a few songs that could/should be cut but overall I love them.

And I too also prefer Chinese Democracy to Appetite for Destruction.

Regarding how you felt about St anger that is exactly how I felt about Megadeths last album especially with how overhyped it was.

That's another album I haven't bothered buying.  I just don't really like Megadeth anymore without Marty Friedman.  :|

Anyway, this talk about new/upcoming releases has prompted me to order a couple of CDs today - one new release (Baroness - Yellow & Green) and one not so new (Red Fang - Murder the Mountains).

Yellow and Green looks like it's going to be awesome, need to get my ears around it on YouTube in a mo. Will prob end up ordering it anyway, heh.

Apparently it's very different from the earlier albums.... but that's OK.

Aye, "different" doesn't necessarily mean better or worse. Take Mike Patton for example, he has so many different sounding bands / projects, but they're all good.  ^_^

Well, mine of course was the Rock of Ages soundtrack!

But since that passed already, I guess I'd pick Aerosmith, I'm looking forward to seeing what Brad and Joe have up their sleeve with riffs.

I don't know why, but I'm quite surprised at you being into Baroness and Red Fang - too effin great bands btw.

The new series of four EPs from Down should be cool, looking forward to those...

I have to be honest, Baroness first caught my attention a few years back simply because of the cover art of the Red Album!   And from there, I became aware of Red Fang because I sometimes look at the Relapse Records website.  They're rare examples of newer bands I've actually heard.

I have to say though, of all the forms of "modern" heavy music, the only stuff I can get into is (broadly speaking) stoner rock.  I seem to have an affinity for it, which is quite strange because I have never been stoned in my life.  :P

Typically, I wasn't aware of the Down EPs, although again I really like that band (not so much the third album, though)

I totally forgot, RHCP are releasing a series of new songs as singles this year, those should be interesting as well.

^ +1, I thought that was a weak album overall - it's not one I felt compelled to listen to very much.

The new song I've heard is great though, very much in the 2nd Down album vein.

Yeah, I'm fairly familiar with those two bands, although I don't have any of their albums.  Thanks!  :)
