Title: The dumbest thing said in your band?
Post by: NPH on February 16, 2006, 12:11:37 PM
What is the most stupid comment you have heard said by a member of your or someone elses band?  Like the drummer saying "why can't we do one of my songs?" for instance.

I would like to contribute a great one from the singer in the last band I was in. We were setting up in the home of the tribute band, The Royal Standard, when I overheard our singer talking to his friends about a track on some CD or other, he said

"They were going to do it as an instrumental, but then they added music"

your turn.

well its nothing to do with music but one time the subject of fish came up in a conversation - and the other guitarist in my band said:

"yer but piranhas... are they actually any good?"

Q: "What is this thing?"

A: "It's got four strings so it's probably a bass."

Years ago I explained the singer that each fret on a guitar is a semitone.
The question that followed: "why not quarter tones?"

I persumed he wanted to be accompanied by a guitar that could match his singing skills.

In my 1st band we had a song called "Hopeless".  I told them the name was a bad idea but they wouldn't listen to me.

You can image the reactions when the singer said, "Thank you.  This next song is Hopeless."

this is actually quite a good one by the singer of my old band... we were in the middle of our set and the singer pipes-up to introduce the next song and says "what the f**k are we doing playing this shitehole?, anyway this song is callled....".  The were alot of confused looking people in the audience

my favourite drummer moment is when they state they should get equal writing credit - considering they generally write no lyrics or music it's a bit of a cheek

A singer in my old band stated, " The tempo change is throwing me off". We looked at each other puzzled, as there was no tempo change. We discovered by way of his melody, it was the key-change he couldn't muster.

Far Far too many to mention.
Did have a guitarist from Denmark (I think, but Scandi anyway) come over and play once. He loved the chippies and REALLY got into Rissoles (prolly spelt wrong, sorry). Till we informed him (so he could understand) what is actually in them. He promptly threw up on the damn spot in the middle of the town! LOL

Drummers, DO NOT GET ME STARTED lol.

The dumbest thing anyone ever said in a band was Bill Ward saying "allright" when Tony Iommi asked him:"Can I set you on fire now, Bill?"

I jammed with these brothers who were decent musicians, only a little clueless. They were bragging about their  former band " The Purple Helmet Warriors" without a clue to what a bad/funny/questionably homosexual name they had called themselves. These were also the same guys who thought "We built this City" was a rockin' tune to jam on.

We once thought it would be a good idea to call ourselves

"The Bollock Oysters of Hercules"

We had partaken of rather a lot of the studio managers skunk at the time and the rehearsal was going all strange and giggly.

"The Used are metal!"

Said by the vocalist of my band. I felt like given him a hard slap for that.

What do you mean "felt like"?! I would've thought it was mandatory to slap someone for saying something so stupid!

JJ Burnell from the stranglers had a part time band in the early 80s called the Purple Helmets

I once worked in a place which sent work experiance kids up to 'Dorothy' in advertising to borrow the 'purple tipped population tool' God Dorothy was scary
