Title: So I own a Strat now. Sort of.
Post by: Loomer on August 07, 2012, 10:50:14 AM
So yeah. You lot may have figured out a while ago that I don't do much of that whole actual "music" thing, rather than just making horrid noise. Nevertheless, this Friday...

This happened:

I actually went and got a strat. And I'm liking the shite out of it. And it's a squier.

If you'd told me eight, nay, TWO years ago that I'd fall in love with a Squier strat I would probably laugh. But here it is. I got it for ludicrously cheap, and it has upgraded tuners, pro setup and some mods to the pickups and stuff. Overall it just sounds really nice, and plays waaaay better than 120 dollar guitar ever should.

So yeah.. I am officially and old fart playing blues licks now. Come at me bro.

where was it made? not that it matters, a good guitar is a good guitar, but just curious

It says China on the back of the headstock.

Incidentally, I owned a Squier Stagemaster some time ago which was also really nice.

Am suprised, but just shows there's increasingly less correlation between country of manufacture and quality on a guitar if good QC is adhered to.

I've got an old squire strat from the early 90's (still made in japan) that i love. First electric. thinking of getting a new body for it because the old one is made of plywood (looks that way from the block cavity) but the neck.. oh the neck.. that deserves a better body.so comfy and the finish is worn off the back. I used to play obsessively as a teen..

Good score and glad you like it!

I have 1 of those too in Lake Placid Blue  :D Really nice guitar for the money, especially with the Apaches I put in it.

You can't beat a good Strat, no matter where it's made!

It looks really cool!  What's the scratchplate, is it really a coppery colour as it seems in the pictures, or is it a gold anodised metal plate?

Alot of guitars that these overseas companies are putting out are outstanding, really puts the pressure on the US places. Congrats on a great guitar, love the color/pickguard combo too!

The Squier CV series is excellent - nice score  :)

I still have my first electric guitar, a JV Squier from 1983:

those wee classic vibe squiers do amaze me.  any time i'm in a guitar shop i find myself more drawn to them than any of the actual Fender stuff!  i have a cv Telecaster (another ex-Twinfan guitar :) ), and it really is excellent

There's a bit of a price difference, though, isn't there?  :P

I do have a collection of some of Fender's chunkier necks (mainly from various MIM models).  One day I'll match them up with my collection of Warmoth bodies....

Yeah.. i guess.. could always go and cut down the nearest tree and stick some strings on it? that should only be a little thinner than the kotzen neck

My first proper guitar was a Squier strat back in 1985 when they were made in Japan.

And yes, the serial number started with E. And I gave it away to a friend. I should really see about buying it back someday.

Just to be clear here: It's not one of the new Classic Vibes, which are apparently pretty good. It's a bullet series

Bullets are very popular for moding, due to the low prices, yet full size body (unlike affinities)
