Title: Tele projects for us skint folk?
Post by: Nadz1lla on August 12, 2012, 05:40:08 PM
Eyup guys,

Found this seller on ebay getting rid of loads of unsanded, unfinished bodies that have knots and chips in them.

I don't know what I should be looking for when looking at bodies for projects, what can you lot tell me about them? I have the equipment and materials to sort out all the cosmetic stuff and fix the missing chunks from the bodies, but do the neck pockets and other routs look legit?

Have you checked these guys out?

A friend of mine got one and got them to do a few customisations etc and it turned out really nice once we had put it together.

It took a bit of sanding before it could be finished but other then that it was spot on

However there is a massive price difference to the ones on ebay!

Did you forget a link, dude?

As for the OP, they seem to be listing all the faults with the bodies for sale, including things like "String holes not central" where applicable, so seems like they are telling it like it is as far as I can see.

Awesome! Good price for new full kit and would jump on it if I had the money, maybe will save for one after I've got all the other stuff I need at the moment, heh.

Thanks for the link mate, will bookmark that one for sure!

i helped someone finish off a kit from diyguitarshop and i was not impressed with it at all.

i know they say its ash, but its not like any ash i have seen used for guitars.   constructions was cheap  hardware was next to useless and it took quite a bit of work to make reasonable.

must admit i have been following some of the bodies in the original post - just missed out on a 51 p bass body the other day - they do at least look like proper ash but i do wonder why they bothered using so many obviously flawed pieces of wood.   still look like some bargains to be had

Yeah I was wondering that, Wez, thought it might be the pieces they let the "new guys" try their hand at maybe.

This bloke (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stratocaster-tennessee-strat-Hybrid-Replacement-Alder-Body-/320943521370?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ab9b97e5a) seems to do better quality bodies for a reasonable price. The link's a strat/tele hybrid thing but he's had tele bodies for sale too. He also does finished bodies and can build to order if you want something slightly different. No idea of the quality though!

I'll vouch for him. I believe Martamp Martin also has at least one of his bodies too. Quality stuff

I'll vouch for him.

Well, that's sufficient recommendation for me to start building a partscaster.

I'm watching the Tele bodies, hopefully get one of them cheap enough - can't ever have too many guitars and it'd be a good project for me and the old man to do together.

I've had no luck getting any of these. Some cheating gits have paid for one of those bots to shoot down other people's bids half a second after they've made them. So unfair, those things should be made illegal. Means that people like me who can't actually afford to run one of those bots will just never get a look in. Frustrated.  :?

Some quality swampash tele-bodies here for 75 euro per piece. Haar Guitars is a famous builder here in Holland. A lot of pro's play Erik's guitars.
