Title: NBD!
Post by: _tom_ on September 06, 2012, 02:19:27 PM
New bass day :D Bought this just for recording really. It's my first bass and I didn't really know what I was looking for in one, so just went with a classic P-Bass design. It's a Squier Vintage Modified P and to my untrained ear/hands it seems awesome. It feels as good to me as the Fenders I played in a few shops, and I do love how it looks :)  The first thing I noticed was how resonant it is, even unplugged when I play it I can feel it shaking through my body haha

Unfortunately I'm only playing through Amplitube 3 at the minute, would love a proper amp but can't justify it just for recording. Also I'm sort of "cheating" and playing with a pick at the minute, just feels better coming from a guitar and I actually prefer the sound of it. Now, time to crack out the Rancid CD and learn Maxwell Murder :) Bass is so much fun!

Nice looking bass. It defenitely has a vintage vibe going on. If you record Maxwell Murder please link to the song  :D Matt Freeman is one of my favourite bass players and Rancid wouldn't be the same without him. And by the way Rancid kicks arse!

Now comes the painful process of re-recording everything I've ever done and replacing the octaved guitar with a real bass  Quite liking Amplitube 3's Gallien Krueger patches, through my monitors up loud I'm still shaking the room! Finding it hard to get a good mix with the real bass, seems quite easy to get either too boomy yet bright, or lost in the mix.

Here's a quick clip - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15027660/Intro.mp3

Nice one dude! I got myself the Squier Jaguar Bass a few months back for recording, and I still love it! £190 goes a long way in the Squier range, heh!

Congrats on joining the club.  ^_^

Gratz. Nice guitar. I went for an Ibanez when I got a cheap bass. Wish I'd gone for a squier really.

Nice one... just been catching up and saw the Epi had shifted, and here's the result!

And playing with a pick is not cheating, just different

And I reckon you're gonna love playing bass... :D

Been playing with the Ampeg VST and it's awesome! Slowly getting GAS for an Ampeg bass combo now  heres a quick clip http://soundcloud.com/shotgunroyale/intro

Done a couple more tracks and really enjoying this - http://soundcloud.com/shotgunroyale (this is a band me and my mate are trying to get going!)

Not so much enjoying the latency I'm getting though, meaning I have to record without amp modeling on, not quite as fun! Shredding through my normal tortex .88s quite quickly though, need some new ones that last a bit longer! Also getting very tempted to put an Ampeg BA115 on the credit card
