I saw a Hagstrom ad in a magazine yesterday, never really paid any attention to the brand but one model caught my eye.
It's called the Deuce F, a small-bodied semi type (I think it's actually a solid mahogany body with a chamber on one side). Only a budget Chinese-made model I think, but it looks really cool. :D
Anyone tried one, or any other new Hagstroms?

Not played any, but they definitely have a cool retro vibe going on in general (like reverend guitars) and i see only good things said in reviews
-
i tried one of the les paul-alike models several years back... seemed like pretty much what you would expect for the price, on par (or maybe slightly nicer, but little in it) with epiphone and the like. EDIT: obviously they might be completely different now. As might epiphone (haven't tried them for ages either).

No experience. They do look nice. I heard from a retailer Hagstrom will come up with European made series for around 1000-1100 euro.

That sounds interesting!
I believe these current ones are made in China then inspected/set up in Sweden.
-
I haven't tried one of those but I have seen them around. They look very nice!
-
I really don't "need" another mini-335 type at all, but it's really just the look that's winning me over, I think it looks absolutely brilliant!
I'd like to try one, but maybe I should just save a couple of pictures and leave it at that.

I like the look of this too Philly. Maybe you could get one and give us all a review.

The Hagstrom site only mentions "mahogany body" for the "deuce F", but is more explicit about the "deuce F Tremar" having a one-side chambered mahogany body with a thin maple cap.

Not that one. I had a try at the Viking II last year, rather nice guitar for the price AFAICT (after a 1/2 hour test...) but I found the neck to be too thin for my tastes.

 Maybe, Ian..... or maybe not. I'd certainly like to try one, though.

Yeah, I noticed they made a big deal about their truss rod design, which lets them make a thin neck which remains stiff (or something like that....)
As usual, that's a probable deal-breaker for me.

They're a bit cagey about saying exactly where they're built!
-
Yeah Europe, could be anywhere. I guess Poland (Mayones?) or Czech Republic.
-
It reminds me of the situation a few years ago when BC Rich had their Calibre series, I think they were made in the Czech Republic. They looked great but they seemed to be very hard to actually get hold of, and the whole operation came to an end pretty quickly.
-

This
It's working for me at the moment...
It does look quite cute, though.
Luckily for me, I've got so used to the look and feel of a full-sized one, this miniature version doesn't cause any more than a pleasant "oh, that's quite cute"...
In fact, it took me ages the other week to get used to a strat "floating/rattling around" in my arms because it was so small  (don't tell Frank)... I have no idea what my SG is going to feel like when I give that a go...

Whereas for me, a scaled-down semi is a wondrous thing!
In fact I'm really starting to like chambered guitars in general, even the ones without f-holes. I like that extra bit of resonance and acoustic volume - it may not even translate into the amplified tone, but since I mostly sit around playing unplugged, I favour guitars with a bit of "life" to them.
I think I will just restrict myself to looking at pictures of these Hagstroms, though. I already have my Washburn which does much the same thing (although it badly needs a pickup upgrade!) and (much) further up the scale I have my Gibson (which may get a pickup upgrade one day, although the thought of trying to rewire through those f-holes is truly horrifying!)

Have you got a BC Rich Calibre Classic, Dave? Which model?
I was really quite keen to get a Mockingbird or Bich, but I only ever saw them on eBay and the seller was in the USA.
-
^ yeah a mockingbird. A while back thomann got one into stock somehow, and I knew they'd been discontinued for a while so I just took a chance and went for it. :)
Wouldn't that be genius!
I can't claim credit for that one, i've heard theories/conspiracy theories along those lines before

What's up with the dual strap pin at the end of the body? I have never seen that before :?
EDIT: Oh well. I just managed to find out myself

Tom Anderson's been doing that for many years.
I don't know if it's supposed to give you a choice so the guitar balances differently on a strap, but if nothing else you can stand it on the floor without it falling over or getting scratched! :)

They are very fine guitars. I just watched this clip with a Hagström (because of the amp though):

My retailer, who's a Fender Custom-shop-, Gretsch- and PRS-dealer, talked quite positively about them. He's planning to take them on stock.
