I'm about to order an aftermath 8 set for my ibanez rg 2228. I just don't know if i should buy the conductor 4" set or the "conductor braided 2" set. I'd like to split the humbucker to get different sounds, but my rg has only a 3 selection fot the pickups... can someone help me please? Thanks

Hi,
get the 4 conductor. You need it for splits and is always the right choice if you are not going for vintage correct stuff.
It does the same as the braided, but can do more. If you should not want any of the options at some point you can just tape 2 of the wires to the side.
Additionally to the 4 conductor you will also need to get a push pull pot or another switch in order to get split tones.
I recommend a push pull for the added versatility.
Since the RG 2228 is loaded with EMGs stock you will need to replace all of the pots anyways, because active PUs require values that do not work with passive PUs.
You will want to get a normal 500k pot (or a 550k BKP custom pot) for volume and a 500k Push-Pull pot for the tone. The switch can remain. If your cavity is big enough also think about getting a .022 Jensen Cap from BKP.
Then wire it all up like this https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/general/humbuckers/2_hum_1vol_push_pull_coilsplit_tone_3_way_switch.pdf
Or this if you want the Push pull to be the volume pot https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/general/humbuckers/2_hum__4con_1_push_pull_vol_coilsplit__1_tone__3_way_toggle.pdf

Yeah unless you're going for a set of unpotted mules (to keep 'em right) or something low output that might be a bit weak split, just go 4 conductor. Then you've always got the option to add it on a push-pull or something at a later date should you want to.

4-conductor.
You don't have to do anything fancy like coil-splitting, but it's nice to keep your options open (and personally I hate soldering pickups with the 2-conductor braided cable).

When in doubt choose 4 conductor. It can do everything the 2 conductor can and more.
