Surprised we haven't done this yet! Not sure what to think. I would be worried about Zakk not doing it justice and coating everything with wah, pinch harmonics and chorus but would hope he'd be more respectful than that!

Kerry King did a really good version of 'Mouth For War' at the Marshall gig a few weeks ago.
As you say, I think Zakk would try and just pinch harmonic everything
-
I'm sure Zakk would do a reasonable job, but honestly what's the point of this whole idea (apart from the obviou$$$)?
Pantera was Dimebag. It's not like finding a replacement guitarist for the Ozzy Osbourne band.
-
Yeah that's kinda what I'm thinking as well!

I actually disagree here. Had Randy lived another 5-10 years and then passed, they would have probably not gone on. It was just so early in that bands career they couldn't drop everything and stop. Pantera IMO did everything they needed to do, Ozzy's band hadn't yet.

You could be right, but I'm talking about what did happen, not what might have happened.
It's often been said that Randy Rhoads was planning to leave the band at some point anyway, to concentrate on classical guitar.
-
might be alright. I mean i know it's the thing to rag on zakk, but he's a killer player. they could have picked far worse.
-
I think Zakk is pro enough to play anything, really. It's probably down to the fact that they are friends with him and know him.
-
Yeah he's obviously a good player, I just think if his solo/ozzy stuff is anything to go by then he can lack taste and definitely over-does the wah and harmonics
-
Whenever I find myself hating Zakk or doubting his abilities, I just remind myself how much I love Pride & Glory....
But...... I still don't understand why Pantera would consider touring again, with Zakk or anyone else. Pantera without Dimebag is not Pantera, simple as that. I can't imagine there are any fans who've spent the last few years expecting, or hoping, they'd ever "reform". Dime's death drew a line under the band, surely?
It can only be about money.
-
in fairness, no one from the band has actually said they will do it, and have even said it's unlikely. Vinnie Paul said that if they were to do something, Zakk would be the man. Phil Anselmo agreed that Zakk would be best for the job, and says he had a conversation with Zakk where he said he'd love to if it ever happened. but, Vinnie won't have anything to do with Anselmo. there's a major grudge there, which is hardly surprising. a lot of people feel that Anselmo bears some responsibility for Darrel's death, which is of course ridiculous, but, from an emotional point of view, understandable.
-
I think this would be awesome.
I cant stand dimebag in any way especially his tone.
Whereas zakk has a far better tone and feel.
Also dimebag was also one to abuse the pinches live so I it probably wont matter if zakk does anyway.
One thing that I think is especially great about this is the fact that people who never got to see them live will get a chance. If it happens ill definitely be going.

maybe. I don't much care, i mean it's rock music. i don't think there are any prizes for taste. Plus i mean the no more tears solo is one of the best solos ever.

+1, I love that solo.

Exactly. Just like with most guitarists who pass early, their work seems to be put more on a pedestal by everyone, and the interest in Pantera has definitely grown and continued to grow after Dime's death. This is a chance to give the people who didn't see Pantera to see Pantera with a more than able guitarist taking over.

Yeah i would love to hear some Pantera classics live!

OMG...
That is the best and most disturbing video I've ever seen.
-
I am afraid of a world where kids are like: "Pantera....oh thats the band Zakk Wylde plays in right?"
Just my 2 cents xD

OMG...
That is the best and most disturbing video I've ever seen.
After watching that a few times, it's impossible to hear F**king Hostile without hearing the alternate lyrics.

Never really knew what he was saying in that song anyways

Everything old is new again.
Even Journey pulled off a very successful comeback tour with a Steve Perry impersonator more or less
Maybe Zakk could dye his beard and play a Dean??
-
I really don't see the point in it - Pantera was what they were because of the sound those four guys made together and Dime was a massive part of that. I could imagine replacing Vinnie or Rex without it making such a difference, but Dime's playing is smeared all over that stuff, there is no getting away from it and his style is very signature, he was no also-ran. His tone and approach were notably different from his pears - you can tell when its Dime playing. The same can be said for Zack, but that very fact makes for a weird combination if they were to tour with him playing Pantera songs. Leave that band to the history books, they had a glorious career and it should be left that way.
-
I'm not a fan of this idea. I doubt it would fly anyway, considering the amount of negativity that Vinnie feels for Phil.

I think Dime gave him one of those hideous sigs of his once as a gift.
