Looking to get a small bass combo mostly for playing at home/recording but also looking to get into a band with it or at least play with a guitarist/drummer til we can find a "proper" bassist! Not really sure what I'm looking for if I'm honest! I've been using the Amplitube Ampeg SVX plugin and I really like the SVT Classic model. Thus I'm looking at the Ampeg BA115 (http://www.ampeg.com/products/bassamp/ba115/index.html). I'm thinking DI would be very useful for both recording and live. Anyone used this and what's it like? I'll be playing mainly riffy rock stuff, see my sig for my style of music!
I asked on an American forum and they reckon older Peaveys are great value for money 2nd hand and very reliable, but probably doesn't apply quite so much over here - what's our equivalent? How about something like this Ashdown (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ashdown-EB15-180-Electric-Blue-bass-combo-amp-amplifier-180W-DELIVERY-AVAILABLE-/150917637593?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item23236465d9)?

Funnily enough, my girlfriend's currently looking to sell one of these. We've used it before for practices and small gigs (the latter with the DI out sent to the PA; I think it might have struggled a bit without the DI, although we were using 2 ~100W valve amps) and it's done the job fine. It's also perfectly decent at bedroom volumes. She's only looking to sell because of using it so rarely. Anyway, if you're interested, feel free to give me a shout.
Sales pitch aside, I'd say if you're going for a smaller combo, it's definitely worth getting something with a DI out.

I quite like the Fender Rumble series.

A pity you just want a small one Tom. I have a rather hefty Peavey bass amp that I need to move on at some point. Can't help with the small amp apart from the amp my band's bass player has- very small and cheap but great sounding. I'll check with him on the make and get back to you.

How hefty are we talking 38th?

FWIW - They're out of production now, but if you find one used, grab it... Peavey BAM210 .... I've had a couple of these, very versatile and powerful in a small package.

Hi Tom, about 90 lbs -it is a 15 inch speaker job. With the snappy title of Peavey Combo- I believe 200w all solid state. I'll dig out the manual. Tis a bit of a beast though it is on casters. I have had no thought of price as it was a spur of the moment thought this morning.
here is what it looks like:

Obviously that is not mine and the price there is Aus $ but you get the idea.
