Hi Guys
Im about to buy a new amp , i heard about the nem dsl line from marshall site, did someone experimented these head yet? It seems pretty awesome
Thanks

Don't necessarily think the digital reverb over spring reverb is an ugrade. Sounds more like sexed up cost cutting..
other than that, whats your application? unless you're playing stadiums, save money and get the 40W combo, more than enough wattage for most applications
-
Should be decent, however they are not made in England like the previous DSL's. Don't know if that makes a difference to you or not, but I personally would rather get a MIE used amp than one made in Asia that's new.

Just been to the webpage.... its not just the dogital reverb, but more importantly that have replaced the stupid deep switch and VPR/mute buttons with a a low end resonance pot to adjust as mych as you like, like the JVM's have, plus just like the JCM900 have, a pentode triode switch to reduce the power to 50W.
As a TSL player for the last 11 years, what I really want is the variable effects loop pot like the JVM has

Great amp, great price, what's not to like? I'd probably still get a used old one, because they sound so raw. But all clips I hear from the new version sound splendid!

The first run of JCM2000 DSLs/ TSLs were one of the least reliable amps Marshall have ever made.
Now, I'm not really into high gain sounds, however I also think these amps sound terrible as well, so I am amazed they are so popular (although they do keep me in business).
This may of course be due to me not really being into the genera on music they are appropriate for.

If a DSL sounds like this, why would I not be all over it?

Yup, I had a TSL for 6 months from new when I was 18, it blew within 6 months (and never left the house/went above 2) so I PX'd it for a JCM800 which has blown up once in 6 years and is my all time favourite amp!
I did have a 50w DSL for a while and it was a cracking amp for more modern stuff. If you like it, go for it.

I was just wondering if they might have changed the design a bit. sorted out that notorious bridge rectifier in the filament supply.
The other clever thing they did in the original DSL, was using switching jacks on all the speaker outputs. The connection to ground for the 8ohm/4ohm outputs is switched through the 16ohm only jack. I guess they did this to make it impossible to use the 16ohm output at the same time as the other outputs. The problem there is if the sleeve switch on the 16ohm jack socket gets dirty then it will stop the 4ohm/8ohm outputs working by breaking their connection to ground.
Hunter, thats a good clip.
Digital reverb is what it is. After going out and playing a bunch of reverb pedals it strikes me that it is definitely possible to achieve and really good reverb digitally. Whether Marshall have done that in this amp remains to be seen.
I also think the pentode/triode switch is a bad way to do that power reduction. May as well use a switch that turns off two valves and keep the output running in pentode. Triode mode is changing more than just the overall power, but it's handy if you like the triode sound I guess, which I don't. If it was switching to triode mode and running ultra linear that might be interesting, but if it's just to switch between 100 and 50 watts I think it's a bit of an antiquated idea.
A friend of mine also had a TSL. He never gigged it and used it for home recording (he was an AWESOME player) but it used to be in for repair constantly, hence why when it came time for me to buy an amp I avoided the JCM2000's

It certainly is on the JCM900.
I've seen several of these where the PCB around the pentode/triode switch has burnt away.

As I say, not really my bag, but I prefer the sound of the EVH.
There's also been a bit a processing done to that recording........

Tell you what, forget about all these Dual Super Leads and Triple Super Leads, what about the Super Leads?

Yuk, the EVH is really disgusting, played one the other day, typical Peavy/fender...

DSL sounds decent for the money.
