Gentlemen,
I am waiting on wood to arrive from Warmoth. Specs:
-Swamp ash body with a Quilt maple top
-AAA Flame Maple Neck
-Stainless frets.
I currently have a set of painkillers in my all Mahogany Soloist that work well but I know they would be a bit much in for the build I am doing. I am looking for something with quick bass tracking anda nice throaty mid range Growl. Maybe a little more open and not as hot as the PK.
Something that splits well would be nice but not necessary since I do have a USA Strat for single coil tones.
I play everything from Pink floyd and Zeppelin to Death and Opeth. .. something between the 2 extremes and fairly versatile would be nice.
Aftermath?
Any help would be very much appreciated

I would consider the Holy Dive for an ash guitar, but if you want a PAF-ish tone the Abraxas closes the gap between vintage(hot) and contemporary. Don't know how tight the Abraxas is. It will be less tight then the Diver I suppose.

From the description, Aftermath would certainly do the fast bass tracking and the midrange growl. I do not really see it doing Pink Floyd and Zeppelin too authentically ... I guess it's almost as hot as the PK.
Actually I had the Holydiver and the Abraxas bridge models in the same guitar. Both sounded very good and not too different. The HD had a bit more output whereas the Abraxas was a bit more open. Both had that strong warm midrange, and both were quite tight in the bass.
For the bands you quoted I would choose the HD over the Abraxas.
