Ok, while waiting on the nailbomb for my Burny LP.
Im thinking about chaging pickups in my Strat ;-)
What im looking for is a fat bluesy tone, ala SRV.
Can get close with the standard pickups, but hee, i got GAS.
dont want them to be to hot, cous that would meke them too distorted.
any good ideas?
i was thinking like texas specials, but whats the ohms resistance on those?

I've got Irish Tours in my strat and they're great. If you find they're too hot just lower them away from the strings a bit. If you want SRV I think these would be the pickups to go with. 8)

what does GAS mean?

ah yes, i know it well! :D

I have an Irish Tour set really low in one guitar and the sound is PURE VINTAGE. I am utterly AMAZED at its tone!!
-
Irish tour is hot compared to texas specials then?
-
I have Irish Tours in a hardtail strat and they sound great. The Apaches are good too, but mellower. I am going to put a set of these in a maple neck strat.

deleted for: stupidity on my part.

About the same, but sounds GOOD compared to the Duncan Texas Special or Texas Hot.
The Texas Hot is a Duncan and Texas Specials are made by Fender I believe.
I have a set of the Antiquity Texas Hots in a Fender Strat and they sound great imo.
I'll admit, I've never used a BK single coil, so I can't compare them. Although I do plan on a pair of Irish Tours for a HSS Strat I'm building :D

I've read somewhere on this forum: Irish Tours = what Texas Specials wanna be when they grow up.

Basically what we do with the Irish tours is wind them hot with 42 AWG plain enamel for some serious punch.Alot of the 'Texas' singles are wound with 43 AWG poly-this gives a hot coil but quite harsh and brittle too although it takes less time to wind.Sticking with 42 gauge means longer for us to wind but the tone is well worth the extra effort.

I replaced the pickups in my Hendrix Tribute strat with Irish Tours, and I was stunned by the improvement. I was a bit reluctant to replace the stock pickups because they did sound good, and I wasn't sure how much of a difference it would make. But let me tell ya I was floored, we couldn't get over how much better they sounded. Sweet Sweet Tone

I just got yestarday the Strat. with the trilogy set, got right to work on the Fender Twin Reverb normal channel only, no efects, set up everything to "5's" (this thing is loud)except the guitar "10's", the amp hooked to a Furman clear tone technology ac filter, and used the evidence audio lyric hg cable. It could not get any cleaner. Great output and focus, great harmonics which in a way contradics what has been said about pickups being too hot, transparent, indeed it turn out to be balanced and the greatest surprise came with the natural distortion "WOW" , it's just perfect. All without effects and with new all upgraded electronics. Man what a great surprise. :)

''all upgraded electronics'
did you change the pots/caps/switch too?
RS guitarworks has strat upgrade sets, used the LP kit in my Gibson, that was a BIG improvent.
would this be needed to get more out of the irish tour set?

Don't forget that BKP stock CTS pots and switches, and they're cheaper here than anywhere else! I believe that if you return your warranty form you get a free swicth or something - check with Tim.

ok, didnt know that!
will keep that in mind!

Yes RS i had the kit from RSGWS and that is where i send my guitars to get set-up. I have not found anybody around here that would do a professional and clean work on a guitar. I do not know how to, so i have to rely on somebody else. These guys have consistetly proven themselves. It's interesting to have somebody in England that does the same. With pickups this excellent i'll bet the caps, pots, must be worth trying too. :)

the pots i got from here are from 'allparts', which is a US company i think? anyway, they are a pretty well respected manufacturer from what i heard. i havent had a chance to use them yet but i will soon!
