Hi,
I have a Jackson Dinky JS1, I think it has a basswood body but I'm not sure. It also has a maple bolt-on neck with a rosewood fretboard.
I really like this guitar although it's cheap. I recently joined a metal band and found the pickups are good (for i can say) but not good enough for me.
At the moment I still use my 10 watt beginners amp (the biggest reason my sound is cr@ppy) but I'm planning to buy a Peavey Valveking 112.
I'm also a big fan of Mark Morton's (Lamb of God) sound but also a fan of Mike Spreitzer's (DevilDriver).
Mark uses a Dimarzio Dominion a passive pickup and Mike uses an EMG 81. I'm looking for pickups that can help get the sound of one of those maybe in between.
Hope you guys n gals can give me some advice :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Reading your description the Blackhawk comes to mind (its designed to be a best of both worlds kinda deal between active and passive). You should look into that one.
The alternative would be Miracle Man, the go to recommendation for all things modern metal and bands that normally use EMGs.

Did you try your Jackson in a valve amp, ENGL or Mesa?
Maybe the pickups are fine in a decent amp.

@Kiichi: thanks for the advice, I'm gonna some sound clips and video's of those.
@darrenw: I've tried the guitar trough a valve amp (the peavey valveking of an old classmate) and it worked well. The stock are (in my opinion) better than the GFS pickups in my other guitar. But I think they're aggressive enough.
Wish I could try the jacskon with a Dual Rectifier but those are way to expensive.

I think Kiichi is spot on here, either Blackhawk or Miracle Man.

Good recommendations here, but I would invest first in a proper valveamp, like the Orange TH30 or something similar.

Yes if finances allow that I agree. The jump in sound quality will be much greater (and that way around youŽll truely be able to appreciate the BKPs).

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.
The first thing I'll buy will of course be a new amp, like i said in the first post I'm planning to buy a valveking 112.
The next thing will be new pickups. I hope to get them around Christmas next year (I hope Santa Claus has enough money :P).
