So today I got to try the brunetti 059. I played the brunetti xlr-evo-ltd in the past and didn't care for it, but was still wanted to try the 059. At first I didn't like the 059 at all. I thought it sounded like the xlr minus the nasal quality of the xlr and with less gain and saturation, but then I tried a mesa triple rectifier (one of my favorite high gain amps) and the mesa sounded way worse in comparison. The mesa sounded muffled, compressed, super forgiving, and less raw, but it had a much bigger bottom end, sounded heavier in general, and just had that signature recto sound. I then switched back to the 059 and it sounded way more open, breathy, articulate, and just totally different from the mesa. The 059 is also one of the most unforgiving amps I've ever played. But there was IMO something ugly about the 059's tone that I also heard in the xlr-evo. Maybe I'm just not used to the brunetti sound. Do any of you guys have anything to say about brunetti amps?

i really liked the xlr-evo when i tried it... however, that was a long time ago and I also tried a genz benz el diablo that same day and really liked that, too. I picked up an el diablo in the recent gak blowout of them and sent it back because i didn't much like it (to be fair, it also conked out which sorta made my mind up for me). :lol: So I'm kinda second-guessing what I've thought of things I tried a fair while ago... :oops:

Does your 059 have the plexi-button? I read the plexi-mode makes quite some difference.
Didn't play the 059, but I do like the Mercury EL34 head and the Singleman.

They do have a very signature sound, and it's somewhat an acquired taste. I love them though, but have yet to play one. Hopefully soon!

In general I find Brunetti's a tad expensive for what they offer. The Mercury is a fine amp, but I can not see why it's more expensive then the Orange Rockerverb 50, which is in my opinion as good (bit different voiced and it has 6V6's) and more versatile. The Brunetti's are competing in a pricerange where you can buy a lot of good amps, like a Bogner Goldfinger.

I have a MC2.I wasn't that keen on it at first,but now I really like it.
I took it out of the combo and use it as a head with different cabs.Speaker choice makes a huge difference. It's very versatile.

The Mercury totally rules. Check Dave Kilminsters tones with it on Roger Waters' Wall Tour. Killer!!!

there was a Mercury on ebay recently fairly cheap that i think no one bought. still an largely an unknown quantity in the UK
