Title: Flat 50's vs. Piledrivers for Alt Rock
Post by: Still Life on November 27, 2012, 04:03:21 PM
Hey guys,

I currently use a Fender tele with the lollar vintage t set and while they sound excellent, I don't find them full or ballsy enough for my playing style.  I'll be using them for alt rock in the vein of light grenades era incubus/thrice/muse.

I play through a matchless clubman with the matching open back 2x12 so I don't want anything too bright or thin, which was an issue with the Lollars.

I'm stuck between the flat 50's and the piledrivers.  I like the description of the flat 50's as my rig gives me most of my dirt and I don't think I'd really need an overly high output pickup and although I want a ballsier sound, I still want it to sound like a tele.

Let me know your thoughts!
Mike

I have no experience with the flat 50 or the piledriver, but I think the flat 50 will give you what you need.

Then I think you'd be better with the flat50s.

The Lollar Vintage Ts are somewhere between a BKP BG52 or a Brown Sugar.. pickups which are both quite ballsy.

I would wonder wether a BKP50 will be enough of a step in output and would consider a Piledriver. I don't really like the Piledriver myself, but it would be a good choice for Muse IMO.
