Title: Pickups for Schecter Hellraiser C-1
Post by: Thrashnbash33 on November 28, 2012, 01:31:39 AM
I just bought a new Schecter Hellraiser Special C-1 FR. It originally had an EMG 81/85 combo. I swapped some Duncan Blackouts in there. I love feel of the guitar, but I'm not digging the active tone. The pickups don't have enough character, and depth for my taste.

I have C-Pigs in my basswood LTD F-50. I love those pickups, but I only play doomy stuff with them.

I'm looking for pickups that can handle thrash, old school death metal, and "brutal/slam" death metal really well. Some thing clear, but not crystal clear. Pickups that can get a little low, but still have great harmonics. With a decent amount of mid range, but not over powering. I pull up on the Floyd a lot. So, it wouldn't hurt if the pickups can scream a little bit, but it's not a deal breaker if it doesn't.

The specs of my Schecter are:

25.5" scale
Set maple neck, with an "Ultra Access" neck joint
Mahogany, with a quilt maple top
Rosewood fretboard
24X Jumbo frets
Floyd Rose Special tremolo bridge

For slam death? Hah.

I also play brutal/slam death metal and 99% of these bands use EMG 81's which are a mid focused extreme high output pickup, i'm trying to find a set that would work from me from bare knuckle since the music I write is pretty weird, I like ambient clean sections, brutal death sections, slams/breakdowns and I like to use alot of big chords for certain parts.

The last thing you want is a scooped pickup (at least compared to other bare knuckle offerings), you want something as tight and defined as possible with a lot of mids and not to much bass, the blackhawk and aftermath are the only pickups that really fit that, the painkiller isn't balanced enough and you like the warpig for doom...

Nailbomb could do it as Eric said ceramic option would do job better...I can easy play that stuff with Cpig without any problem so you could try swap it to Schecter first...Basswood is realy soft wood and it sounds boomy and moody against to maple which is harder and sounds sharper and tighter to me...Cpig gets realy brutal in maple neck thru...

I'm going to try my Warpigs in my Schecter, and if I don't like them in it, I might check out the Black Hawk or the Aftermath.
