Title: Help me choose bridge pup...
Post by: tjtheguitarist on May 11, 2005, 07:33:19 PM
Hi there all-
I need some recommendations for a bridge pickup in my Gibson SG. I find the stock 498T too muddy under gain, and i would like a bit more punch. Ideally Alnico V, definately not ceramic.
I play general rock, sometimes with metal-ish parts eg. tapping. Nice punchy and roaring power chords and a not-too-brittle high end please.
Cheers in advance!

Without a doubt the Crawler humbucker-I loaded up one of my LPs for the LGS this weekend and it sounded amazing-in fact we sold out of Crawler humbuckers after everyone tried it out on the stand.

I guess you'll be winding a lot of them in the near future, Tim. I'm almost ready to order mine for my Yamaha SG.

Is it good under high gain because "classic blues rock" doesn's quite sound like me!

Hell yeah.................Geoff Whitehorn very rarely plays with the volume knob over 7 on his axe so this pickup can really roar.It sounded great in my LP, very balanced and superb sustain...it'd handle anything from Free to Sabbath and all points in between.
For more of the same you could go up to a Nailbomb which is a touch more powerful and more high end cut-overall more aggressive tone.

OK.
So i can get an idea of the Crawler's output versus my current bucker, does anyone know the DC of Gibson's 498T pickup?
