Well, still few unwanted/needed things to sell (toys of mine as it where) before I move.
Missus suggested an acoustic, but don't think she meant NOW lol.
Anyway, probably will not get it as have a def. budget but look what I am after, think it's GAWDY enough LOL!!!!!!!!!
Will certainly see me coming with that huh
-
hope you get it mate... its niiiice
-
We'll see.
Is dirt cheap, but NOT if ya don't have the money.
Actually has history too. Guy selling it, his brother painted it. They work for Hamer, which is same building as Ovation.
Ovation did'nt know how to do the high gloss flame job on first guitars so he painted first 12-15 for them before they outsourced.
If do get it think will get him to sign it somewhere discreet.
REALLY nice dude by the way.
He will even take it to Hamer to use buff wheel on it and pack it professionally for shipping.
Thinking I should have begged/stolen/borrowed to "buy it now" but my bid made it vanish as I hit the reserve lol.
Oh well, fingers crossed.
Just need to play it and NOT hang it on wall like art ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
hahaha... i always hear people going on about how they are "scared to have a really flashy guitar" because they afraid to damage it or something.... most stupid thing ive ever heard... lol (ok maybe not THAT stupid). nice story about the hamer guy.
-
I want to do whatever you do for a living. You have and are planning to get so much nice stuff!
-
same lol
-
Well guys, am literally selling stuff I never use and electronic stuff thats no good in UK to come back for my terminally ill dad.
Not anymore but what I did.
Started as an apprentice electrician.
Then worked for family business for abit (garage, doing mechanic work as was brought up with spanner in hand lol).
Then got bitten by Diving bug. Became an Instructor, worked round the world (think Ski Bum, no money to be made but great time, beaches, weather babes etc., so many stories lol, some to make ya hair curl :)). Then went to Commercial Diving.
Commercial Diving became scarce so, with electrical and mechanical quals. got into R.O.V.'s (Remotely Operated Vehicle).
Did that for 13 years all over world. Pretty much always on boats (not rigs) of small to gigantic.
Went from tech. to Supervisor to Superintendant.
Was making $6,000 a month after tax!
But how did I make this?
Working a minimum of 120 hours a week, (my "awake" record was 64 hours straight when there was a problem with the well and I had a skeleton crew) in a hostile enviroment. No going home at night to relax, no alcohol to relax you, no "nights out" etc. etc.
Basically got to point were doctor told me to quit or my blood pressure would kill me!
So, here I am, actually broke but selling off stuff for move back home. Trying to buy what instruments I can before move as they are cheaper here.
I will lose my greencard.
Owe boatloads on my cars (mine and hers) etc.
So, yeah, was doing pretty well but Family and Health come first.
I just have ALWAYS made pretty good purchases so try to lose little money if any. Except the cars here. My house has no garage so did'nt wanna buy used as really could'nt work on them. So buying new (which is always a nutso idea due to depreciation) had to be done. Oh well.
Anyways, go work offshore guys. It will most likely break ya after several years and is NOT exactly fun BUT it does pay well.
Also, UK DID have a legal loophole to get 100% tax back (with requirements) when I worked Offshore there.
-
Oh BTW
got a FANTASTIC Fiancee who IS working at good job (till we move).
Master Degrred Accountant! and she brings in enough right now to get us by.
Long story, but I supported her to start and bought the house etc. anyway, she is doing kinda same for me now while I make plans etc. for move and other stuff.
She is GREAT about the music and the one who got me lessons for Xmas. think she is at end of patience now though, with all the exspenses coming, but She WAS the one who mentioned an Acoustic!!!!!!! ROFLMAO I am blameless really LOL
-
you were a friggin diving instructor!?!?!?! thats a cool job.... and wtf is "remotely controlled vehicle" !!!!!?????
and 64 HOURS AWAKE!!! bloody hell....
-
Still AM qualified Diving Instructor young Sam. This is my 14th year as an Instructor.
Remotely Operated Vehicles are min-submarines with cameras, imaging, sonar, robotic arms etc.
If you ever saw "Titanic" then at the start they use one, although it is VERY Hollyweird how they use theirs LOL, my god they can sure make things fu**ed up in L.A. lol
-
haha, now I just wanna know those stories to make my hair curl
-
haha! lol just read the post bout your fiancee lol.... what did she say when you told her you may buy an acoustic lol...
thats if youve told her of course lol!
-
LOL Tom, form outta air experiences at 120ft underwater, to fresh boobjobs (on student NOT me lol) to Tiger Sharks to 350lb Samoans to OMG where to start and where to end LOL.
Have been told MANY times I need to write a book. Thing is I don't think for a minute my "less than normal" crazy life is finished with me yet :)
-
lol if you write a book then you have to mention me in it! :P
lol maybe coming back from the U.S your plane will crash but your family will all survive and you'll live on an island like 'robinson crusoe'... THAT would be when you should write a book
-
She told me the other day "you should think about an acoustic" (whilst we were sitting in lounge and not where my amp and gear is in spare room). So SHE started it LOL. Also, I CANNOT bring my last rifle and handgun back to UK so gotta sell them anyway :)
Also, have a 100th Anniversary Harley Leather Jacket which sell v.well on Ebay, as sold my Supercharged Harley Truck when gas prices got high (for here) over here, so don't need that anymore :) Darn 8-10 mpg, but 400 bhp :) got me some tickets in that truck LOL
-
haha indeed sounds like you've had a crazy life from the brief stories  When you come over to the UK, what about going cheap and getting a Crafter acoustic? For cheap they are great, I have a D6 I think and it sounds and plays very nicely
-
Sam, geography not your strong point bud? LOL Sorry ya left yourself wide open for that one. Not many islands in Atlantic, not from US to UK anyway. Maybe Bermuda. Or Iceland/Greenland and they are NOT tropical LOL.
Nah, rainy UK days idea, thats book writing weather. BUT, my story has LOOOONG way to go yet I reckon ;)
-
well... ill have you know... that... ermm..... theres the....
...............
MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE! even if it is underwater... with your diving equipment you could live there...for a while....
-
Tom,
don't NEED this acoustic. I mean honestly, I am "learning" and already have four guitars.
I just reckon stock up whilst I can, ya never know. But I DO know the cost of this stuff in UK.
Thus far have used Xmas/Birthday money, sale of PDA,Fishing Rod, Spare Air (rescue diving cylinder I used to Patrol on Police Dive Team here) and a VERY expensive H&K P7M8 semi-auto pistol (which I got cheap ;)) to finance it ALL (cept. the GT8 which missus bought me :)
So, not doing bad, basically trading if ya think of it like that :)
-
i envy you so much for just talking about guns like everyday objects...
i want a gun...
actually wait... screw all that stuff i said about the mid-atlantic ridge rubbish... im gonna find an island... and prove to you... that you COULD be shipwrecked on the journey over here....
-
Sam
no ya don't buddy! They are not cool!
I own and have a carry license because if some f**ker tries to rob me or anything, they are DEAD! here! Guns have NO place here, but it's to late to stop the rot now. Long argument that.
My advice (esp. to a youngen like you Sammy boy). Always have a "slush fund" some money saved.
I pissed alot away when making good money, but, only real problem I have had/do have is my cars. All else did GOOD deals to start with. The key, research, observance and being in right place at right time to strike.
For instance, only bought my house 3 weeks ago. Sounds CRAZY as am moving back to UK right?
Well, lived in same 3 bedroom house here for 6 years, paying rent. Owner finally said she was gonna sell if/when I ever moved (she does not know I am moving).
Well, I got Real Estate License here awhile back (as thought it a good idea). So knew what my house was worth.
Well, I am living here for 6 years, she wants to sell, so I make her an offer (based on sales I could find, which were long time ago as my house is bigger than most in area) and she jumps on it.
Upshot, I should make $20,000 on the sale, which I need to actually to cover my car losses (to come) and small credit bill) and flights/shipping etc.
So, research,funds,patience,right place/right time! See :)
I know easier said than done, but it IS doable, trust me ;) ;) ;)
-
hahahaha! lol ill bear all of that in mind... when i get to a point where i actually have money to save and put aside lol.
-
I have a few guns, they are fun when in the right hands.
Your life sounds so interesting, haha, congrats on the fiancee by the way.
:)
I hope you get that ovation lookin' 'coostic.
-
Well
worked out a deal with the guy.
So come monday she is Texas bound with a signed headstock and all :)
-
Now I just gotta hope my stuff sells as well :)
-
... ARGH!.... you get all the good fortune you do..... its just not fair....
congrats i spose... :P
-
Be nice Sam, I may come North one day and let ya play with the toys :)
-
haha! wicked... but... north?
-
My folks live in Wiltshire (south) so you are kinda North. More East but still North LOL
-
lol i was gonna say.... haha
just out of interest (ive probly asked you this before but oh well) how far away is wiltshire from hertfordshire/east anglia.... do you know?
-
Now gotta practice more.
Another reason for an acoustic is my folks (esp. my mum who can/will still clip me round the ear lol) will wanna see I can play after buying 5 guitars LOL. She will not be into an electric (too loud for her) so the acoustic is a good idea.
See, I have ALL the excuses why gotta have summit LOL
-
Bout 2-3 hours Sam, well twas when I lived there awhile back. Used to get to Essex in 3-3 1/2 hours depending on the darn M25.
-

LOL! hahaha
i should probably practice more but both my guitars are at my drummers house at the mo.... it would be fine if i had like 5 guitars... but we cant ALL afford to indulge ourselves.... :x
lol joking...
P.S lol gotta remember that excuse about the acoustic... haha.... thats class that is....
also... how far is wiltshire from devon then? lol i should know all this shouldnt i? haha
-
Need an Atlas with them there strings Sam? LOL
Wiltshire, then Dorset, then Devon , then Cornwall. Thats all going West btw LOL :)
-
ahhhhh cool.... so effectively what your saying is wiltshire is on the way to dorset...?
cause my gran lives in dorset you see.... and sooner or later.... it'll be time to visit.... in fact... i think maybe i should go quite soon, i havent seen her in quite a while.... maybe july sort of time.... and i hear wiltshire is a particularly nice place that time of year...
and yer an atlas would be good lol....
-
And, just to total up for ya Sam.
Jackson+Ernie Ball #1+Ernie Ball #2+Les Paul (that one was $$$)+Ovation
= 1,900 gbp or a Les Paul + 1/2 a Jackson ;)
Not so bad huh.
In UK (best can tell)
Jackson = 800 gbp
Les Paul = 1,300 gbp
Ernie Ball = 1,100 gbp ( x2)
Ovation = 1,200 gbp
= 5,500 gbp
So, NOT too shabby!
-
....you had to go and rub it in didnt you....
-
Definately was NOT trying to rub it in buddy.
Just trying to show, not rich or a showoff. Just trying to make some good purchases while I can is all.
Could basically never imagine getting that lot in the UK.
But here, well you see how I have done.
It's alot, esp. as am a "learner", but if I had waited, could'nt have done it.
Guitars don't have expiration dates, so no matter what, they will be there. Just got them while I could.
Timing, savings/cash in hand/funds, research! Remember buddy ;)
You are young, you WILL get there :)
-
All guitarists are still learners though! I know what you mean about buying stuff when its cheap, I missed out on a great deal on a hotplate because I thought "I allready have an attentuator" then now I realise how cr@p it actaully is and how much I want a hotplate
-
lol yer i know you werent deliberately rubbing it in dude dont worry. you really have done well with all your purchases mate. i would be happy if i managed half your lot for the cash (if i had it lol). looks like the U.S is the place to be for guitar equipment (and a lot of other stuff i spose) as long as you know what you want and what to look for.
