Never heard any one discuss these neck pups on the forum. I'm lusting after a Les Paul or something similar and looking to get either a cold sweat, holy diver or rebel yell in the bridge. The cold sweat is discussed regularly in the bridge and the neck so im cool with that (and due to fit one soon to a superstart of mine) but I just wondered if any one could describe what the rebel yell neck or holy diver neck sound like?

no experience here, but the rebel yell is said to be pretty similar o the cold sweat, and the diver is often mentioned as a lighter and brighter version of the cs

RY neck isn't mentioned, but if I remember right it started out as a hybrid of the VHII and CS neck models (that could be wrong....)

RY neck is full, fat and warm. I stay mainly on my RY bridge pup but I do take the odd solo on the neck these days. I've never liked a neck humbucker before I got the RY.

When you say lighter what do you mean exactly?
I'm looking at getting a Edwards Les Paul which comes with the JB / 59 combo and im gonna have to save up for the guitar let alone the pickups and to be fair I dont think ive ever played the JB/59 combination! The JB must be decent I just cant think of how the 59 sounds from any records ive listened to.

Wicked thanks for that sounds like the cold sweats just is the perfect neck pickup for me.
Do you (Or anyone) have an alnico nailbomb in a les paul type guitar? Would it be 'capable' of doing fast thrash type riffs or would it be too 'loose'.

59 isn't dark, it just doesn't have much in the way of midrange and is tubby. A popular thing to do is swap the magnet to an A4, cures those things. An A2 59 is cool too, but way more vintagey.
JB is all upper mids and highs, the low end and low mids are understated, when stuck in a darker/bassier guitar it can sound real loose and really just wrong. Kinda gets a bad rap because all the manufacturers stick them into everything (ESP). It usually sounds best in brighter guitars, with 250 pots, which is totally counterintuitive.
They could sound great, but I wouldn't count on it. They really should be putting custom/59 sets in those guitars.

If the custom is the SH5 I very nearly bought that but opted for the alnico black hawk instead. Reading forums etc the general opinion on the sh5 is that it wasnt that good..... might not be the case but I couldnt find many people who had a good word to say about it!

the sh5 is fine, but way too muddy compared to any high output bkp
and its abrasive top end can get harsh easily

I quite liked the SH14(?) Custom Five, which is the SH5 Custom with an Alnico V magnet instead of Ceramic.
Preferred it to the JB, anyway.

That's true!
I had one in an Edwards V with a '59 in the neck (not sure why they chose that combo for that particular guitar, instead of their standard JB/'59). It was quite bright, even bordering on harsh, but I liked the contrast with the neck pickup.

The custom isn't muddy at all by normal standards, compared to a PK, yeah, it doesn't have the same clarity, but compared to a 500T or a superD, not muddy at all. Horses for courses, it has its place.
I do like it better with the big ceramic from a Duncan distortion myself though, and I hate the C5.

I have both the Rebel Yell neck and the Holydiver neck but I have not tried them in the same guitar so I don't have a direct comparison. The Holydiver neck has the same wire as the Cold Sweat neck, and if the Rebel Yell neck is similar in specs to the Cold Sweat neck but with fewer turns then it should sit between the CS and HD necks, tone and output wise.
