They're Gibson Super 74, Alnico 3/7KOhm output...What BKP do you think gets more close?

I'm not totally shure on this, but I think the Emerald could be a contender as it has a bright edgy voicing but still retains some vintage feel.
-
Sonically the Emerald may have the bite but would be a touch more powerful.
These are the equivalent of the T top PAFs.
On the face of it I would say a Stormy Monday but with an alnico 3 magnet.
Gibson site specs say AWG42
Not sure if Gibson were using Polysol wire at the time either - Tim will know
-
mules or riff raffs
-
Would be nice if Tim'd build a vintage pup with alnico 3 magnet. :D

In the guitar world, we call them single coils. :P

Un altro italiano!!!!!! :D

Un altro italiano!!!!!! :D
auahuhauhuahuahu si!!!!
PS: il tuo nick non mi è nuovo!!
However the new Duncan Bonamassa pickups have the A3 in the bridge so would be nice if Tim would build a PAF with this Alnico type.
Question: Hearing the videos, the pickups are very powerfull but have A3 (low output) and only 7 kohm... mhhh

Musicoff probabilmente, se non sbaglio tu avevi la LP sunburst nell'avatar, giusto? Anche tu cliente BKP?!
They're not that powerful, it's just a lot of preamp gain!

Mules are too look at, maybe RiffRaff if you want a brighter pickup with more punch and tightness.
-
I have a '73 lp custom with a riff raff/mule set and a modded '73 jmp
thank god my tone doesn't sound like randy's
maybe the tone is in the cream finish, and mine is black beauty 8)
kiddin
his live tone was great and my rig could definitely get in the ballpark with some tweaking (if I could play like him :?), but I can't stand his album tones, although I love those albums
honestly, I doubt his pickups were really alnico 3 (by the way, isn't alnico 3 actually AlNiCu?)
anyway, from all the videos I found with the gibson RR vos, I wouldn't expect the bridge 74 pickup to be that low output like a real '74 t-top would
maybe they used the alnico 3 in an attempt to make them sound a little less hot than their modern pickups
I'd still pick the riff raff for those spanky tones in the videos (with the VOS replica), but Tim always recommended the mules for Randy's les paul stuff and I remember he also had the nailbomb in a polka dot gibson gothic flying V
for the tones in actual Randy's videos, I'd pick the mule
for the album tones, I'd buy an epiphone special with stock pickups and a boss ds-2 pedal

In fact, and correcti me if I'm wrong, the T-Tops were Alnico 5 on a '74....The Nailbomb in the Polka Dot would emulate a Di Marzio Super D/Paf combo, I tought it would be more Holy Diver territory....
So The Mules would be the PU of choice for a Randy Rhoads classic live tone?
-
Riff Raff or Emerald probably.
My LP Custom with the Rebel Yell set does it well, too, even if I cannot play like RR or the guy in the video.
Cheers Stephan

yeah, the nailbomb might do a closer super distortion job than the holy diver, although it's no near as middy and grinding
but the nailbomb is dense, spanky and very powerful, so it makes sense
when doing heavy riffs under low crunch gain, I always thought of Tom Morello, which is a huge super distortion fan
yeah, I believe the mules might work great for that, combined wit the proper amp and distortion sources, of course
not necessarily a distortion+ and a cascaded plexi with altec speakers
a rat, riot or crunch box in front of a marshall style amp with good speakers should get close enough (celestion classic 80's sound like a good pick for this)
I think Tim used a 1970 Goldtop with Mules and a keeley modded boss SD-1 into a regular stock JCM 800 2203 in his Ozzy tribute band (not sure about speakers)
