Our regular Korina flying V fanatic customer, Paul has had us at it again
Really happy with this one!
Paul supplied some of his own hardware (tuners, tonepro ABR style bridge and the pickups , which were Alnico 2, but sadly not Stormy Mondays - which would have been my first choice)

As ever we had to have a brass boomerang tailpiece made up specially as the commercially available ones are the wrong angle and they leave gaps down the edge of the fingerboard.
Paul had us put another serial number on this one - previous versions featured his date of birth and the date of the first flyingV to be made.
This one just reflected a date that might have been a good time to get such a guitar.

Recessing and installing the gripper strip is a tricky task but we seem to do a nice job of that
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/felineguitars/CUSTOM%20BUILT/V58/V583_zpsa432c48c.jpg)
We used 2mm mother of pearl dots on the side markers
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/felineguitars/CUSTOM%20BUILT/V58/V5812_zps41639bfe.jpg)
The earliest Vs were hand carved on the heel - and as such had no step between neck and body - as repeated here (Paul is a stickler for the little details)
We were really pleased with the colour of the amber tint in the finish - looks like an old one might look colour -wise
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/felineguitars/CUSTOM%20BUILT/V58/V5810_zpsd15a178d.jpg)
The neck wood has some lovely rippled figuring in it - looks lovely
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/felineguitars/CUSTOM%20BUILT/V58/V587_zpsb23cacbe.jpg)
The strings are seated in recessed brass cups - different style to Fender style ferrules

The pointy end

Love it to bits! :D
I presume that's the one which has been in the "on the bench" section of your website for a while?
That first V design was definitely the best. Inspired choice of korina as the timber, and I think the neck joint is a thing of sheer beauty.
-
Not really into Vee's, but this one looks fab. Beautiful timbers.
-
looks good enough to eat :) beautiful piece of work
-
Great looking guitar and I'm usually not that fond of Vs, but this one is delicious :)

I've never tried a real 50s one so it's hard for me to say, but definitely they are special.
I think they look nicer with the black pickguard, but white is fine. Naturally this particular one is gorgeous.

I can never decide about that. I sometimes think the black looks better, but I really like the contrast between the white scratchplate and the black knobs and mounting rings.... so maybe the white just edges it for me.
-
Absolutely beautiful work as always. I do like a classic V and one executed to this standard is a rare treat indeed. Very tasty.
And I can never decide whether black or white scratchplates look best on them either.

The contrast with the white pickguard is particularly nice if the pickups have had the covers removed, which gives the guitar a nice shot of a aggression. Would both black pickguard and uncovered pickups be too much?
Jonathan: whats the damage on one of these then?
-
Stunning craftsmanship Jonathan. Very beautiful and classy, well done.

+1 :D

Dangerous question! :P

Dangerous Question - about £2000
-
As always stunning work. If I ever get a V it needs to be in this style, it just feels to right!
-
Has to be one of the tastiest looking V's I've ever seen. Gotta give us more info on that Explorer you had on your Facebook page too!
BTW, what's the point of the grip strip? I've only ever seen people (like me) put picks there.
-
BTW, what's the point of the grip strip? I've only ever seen people (like me) put picks there.
Its meant to make it easier to play sitting down I think. But personally I don't have a V with a grip strip and never had a problem playing seated.

Presumably most people would play seated with their right thigh inserted in the crotch of the V (....Afghan Dave where are you?) so the grip strip's a bit irrelevant. I imagine the rubber perishes and goes all manky eventually, too.
Cool vintage feature, nonetheless.

Those pics were of 1958 Gibsons - those two guitars are worth more than your house
Here they are again....

Mine are much more affordable :D

I find playing a V that way naked & wearing a ribbed condom ensures both comfort and control...

And the less said about Afghan's "cool, vintage feature" the better.

Great looking guitar! A Vee is still missing in my collection, which is a real shame given that Michael Schenker was one of my main influences.
Cheers Stephan

Well then, gotta make an Explorer!
-
BRRRP!
Sorry, a touch of GAS.
-
Dangerous Question - about £2000
That's not too bad considering the workmanship and that you are running a custom shop. I have paid more for production guitars.
It looks fantastic!
-
BRRRP!
Sorry, a touch of GAS.
I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of GAS that sound implies....
-
Norovirus?
No, it's OK. Just regular GAS.
-
Oh wow... sexy geetar Jonathan :D
-
I would have that guitars babies
-
Korinas are the only V's or Explorers I like - and I like this one very much 8) A fine example of the Feline craft...
-
What a fantastic looking guitar, that's one lucky new owner!
-
Gorgeous - I think your Vs are nicer than your Lions, Jon.
-
That looks great!
Sadly I can't afford one - happy to take one on trial though :D
-
It looks really nice Jon, and I'm sure it is great to play. What is the sound like - I always think they are clearer than an LP (at least the ones I've played and heard seem that way).
-
Korina (Limba or Idigbo) is funny , because play it unplugged and it sounds really bright & zingy , almost like an ash bodied guitar does, but plugged in they are warm and smooth and tuneful.
-
Jealousy level: Out of control!
Lovely V!!!!!
-

:o
I guess they are my first love - too many years idolising both Schenker brothers, Paul Stanley and Wolf Hoffman (ACCEPT)
Favourite guitars are V, Les paul, Ibanez Iceman, Mockingbird, Small bodied Explorer, and perversely I like a tele with body contours
-

Nothing wrong with that! :)
I've come to the conclusion I'm too small for Vs or Explorers, but I have this idea of a korina guitar, gold hardware, white scratchplate, black plastic parts, tune-o-matic with strings through body..... but in a singlecut Les Paul Special shape....

and you know we could easily do that :P
You probably remember the two Korina Lion Specials we made before

I still regret letting this one go:

Ah yes, I remember it well! :)
Maybe next year, when I turn 50......
-
That Aquamarine one was stunning.
-
I agree Jonathan's Vs might be a bit nicer than even his Lions. It looks like theres a bit more fire in them (if thats possible!).
Those korina Lions were also quite memorable. I just played the aquamarine one, but it came out really well.

Tell you what Philly, you buy me one this year for my 50th, and then next year...
(I'll do a runner )
-
The Aquamarine one was extremely fine, as was the Emerald Green one.
But I think my favourite (that I've seen "in the flesh") is the all-mahogany Lion Special that's still on the site. Beautiful thing, and I love the "antique violin" colour (which is probably completely the wrong description).
Any plans for your 50th, Andy? :D

Make it through to 50... then keep plodding on

This one Philly?

That's my guitar and is definitely not for sale
-
As usual, I can't see the picture in work (that hasn't changed with the forum update!)
But I think we're talking about the same one. :D
I can never pin myself down to a single idea for a custom guitar, unfortunately, but if I was in a position to get two or three, then one of them would be very similar to that one!

Looks great in tobacco burst.
