Title: miracle man pantera clip - strength beyond strength
Post by: Demoniality on February 27, 2006, 09:30:47 AM
my first ever guitar recording and i'm struggling with cr@p recording equipment and no experience so go easy on me  :)

bridge miracle man in a gibson les paul.

warning for any non-metal players... extreme guitar tone contained within!

Has anyone got any beginner recording guides that spells out the basics of recording guitar? i'm struggling to get anything recorded that sounds remotely how my amp actually sounds   :(

Sounds pretty good if a little fizzy but that might just be the way you recorded it? Solid playing anyway  :D

EDIT- First time I was listening through laptop speakers which explains the fizziness, I just listened through proper speakers and that was an awesome modern metal tone, what amp did you use?

Great playing and good tone. It's always pretty hard to get you actual amp tone recorded. A mic in the middle of the room helps alot and a flat EQ on the recording mixer.

Nice clip - good playing, and I liked the tone too - sounds close enough to the original. What did you use to record it (both guitar and recording equipment)?
When recording a heavy, scooped guitar sound it always helps to have a big clear bass sound behind it to add a bit of definition to the sound.

Very Good Tone, i Liked It
and Very Good PLaying.. Aside from the little part that begins on 0:02 to 0:05, and repeats itself in 0:07 to 0:10, thats should be more percussive, itīs a little bit slower than the original, But the rest Is Perfect. Congratulations.
Q:)
I really liked the tone and playing.

i used a cheap mic into a zoom g2.1u (on standby mode - this was simply to convert the large jack size from the mic to 3.5mm to plug into my sound card lol). recorded using audacity on my pc.
do mic pre-amps make much difference? i had enough signal level cuz i had to turn it down to avoid it overloading.
i need to find a way to record 2 guitar tracks at the same time it looks like. one with the mic up to the speaker and one further away in the room to get the bass.
wonder if theres a mic pre-amp that accepts 2 tracks but then will output to left and right channels on a single cable to go into my sound card?
my amp sounds so much better in the room, a lot smoother and not so harsh. tons more bass too
the amp is a marshall 6100LM half stack by the way
