Title: Need to find a BK for a Gibson SG
Post by: Dr. Love on January 15, 2013, 08:16:14 PM
Hey,

I'm searching for a new PU to fit my SG. I pretty sure the Riff Raff and the Emerald are great choices for SGs. But which contemporary PU fits SGs?

Can't decide which way I should go  :?

Best regards!

Hi and welcome

wrt/ "contemporary" range pups, you can rule out the Crawler (great pickup in a bright guitar but definitly way too warm and fat for a mahogany plank - and much more "vintage hot" than "contemporary" when it comes to voicing), and IIRC the Holy Diver doesn't work too well neither (too middy I guess ?). The Warpig seems to be fine for a _very_ heavy tone (no personal experience here), and at least one guy (hello...) is obviously very happy with the Alnico Nailbomb.

Now the mandatory questions : what kind of tone are you searching for, how does your SG sound unplugged, what style(s) are you playing etc ?

The Miracle Man and the Warpig work very well in SGs.

Definitely. They both work great in an SG, I'd recommend both of them. Just a matter of preference.

+1

Both the neck and bridge CS models sound great in an SG.
