I recently purchased a really nice 8 stringer. IBANEZ RGA8QM. The only problem is, they come with these active pickups from IBANEZ that take AA batteries. Like a kids toy. THey sound absolutely horrible. Garbage.
I need a good bridge pickup for this metal monster. But there seems to be a problem with the string spacing. In all 8 strings on offer from Dimarzio/Duncan etc. they only come in standard. But when i put in a standard 8 string pup, the first pole piece on the F string lined up, by the time you get to the High Eb, the magnet isnt even under the top string.
Why doesn't anyone make a stock FLOYD 8 string pickup? Will BKP make one for me?
If so, which pickup would be good for Progressive metal?
For the record, i already own an AFTERMATH in my Steinberger 6 string detuned to Bb Eb Ab Db F Bb, but the AFTERMATH wasnt for me. With my high gain rigs it just sounded to string talky and fizzy. I guess classic or medium output would be best.
