Title: Pickups for Ran Crusher (Swamp Ash body)
Post by: zf on January 24, 2013, 09:25:15 PM
Hi all!

I have a Ran Crusher 6-string, pictured here:

It has a lightweight swamp ash body, mahogany neck and macassar ebony fretboard. It came with EMGs that I'm now looking to swap out.

I play metal and this time around I'm looking for clarity (big chords, fast rhythms) most of all.

I have Aftermaths in my Ibanez J-custom (our latest album was recorded with them: https://soundcloud.com/embreach/the-night-beckons) and while I like them, I think they sound a bit too modern and not warm enough (the Ibanez has a mahogany body which is really heavy compared to the Ran.) My all-time fave BKP has been the Ceramic Nailbomb I had in my Jackson (Dinky with alder body.)

I'm not familiar with swamp ash at all, so any suggestions about what might work are welcome :)

Thanks a lot, Nailbombs are definitely high on my list! My main requirement for the neck pickup would be excellent cleans, should I just get a Nailbomb in the neck as well or try something else?

Try the Cold Sweat.

A-Bomb and VHII neck is a very good combination. I guess A-Bomb and CS neck is good, too but I have not tried that particular combination.

Cheers Stephan
