I am currently considering getting some new PUPs for a Warmoth build. It is a super strat with an Alder body, and a carved maple top. It also has a maple fret board, so it is a bright guitar.
I have pretty much had experience with all of the contemporary line, minus the crawler. I have had a few combos in this guitar, as well. I have had a rebel yell bridge and a VHII neck; which didn't quite do it for me. I have also had an alnico nailbomb bridge and a cold sweat neck in this guitar. I recently put the latter pickups in a new guitar I purchased, so I decided to pick up black hawks for the warmoth build. I purchased the ceramic option, which leads me to my current situation.
I like the black hawks, but in retrospect I should have probably purchased the alnico bridge option. The ceramic option is a bit harsh, and just a tad too much upper frequencies that I can't really seem to effectively dial down in my amp (Engl Savage 120).
I have had luck with both warpig options before, and I am seriously considering the ceramic bridge version (I have not tried the warpig neck). I suppose I would like to hear which pickup everyone else would go for between the alnico black hawk, or the ceramic warpig. If I end up getting the warpig I will get the bridge and neck. If I get the black hawk I will only be replacing the bridge (since the black hawk neck is currently installed), so the black hawk is the cheaper option - if it matters. I am also curious to know what the community would think could work best in this guitar, or perhaps a pickup that I am over looking all together, like say from the vintage line.
In my band, I play melodic death / black metal.

The warping seems like a good option here. The blackhawk seems to be quite bright.
The Black Dog could also work really nicely though.

if you bought the Blackhawks direct from Bareknuckle, you can return it and exchange it for a different model.

Warpig will do fine in alder-maple-maple.

Has anyone had experience with the Alnico Black Hawk in a very bright guitar? I'm just curious to know if the magnet type makes all the difference, or if I am wasting my time considering it since the ceramic bridge isn't my cup of tea. Thanks!

The alnico Black Hawk is definitely more muscular in the midrange, but the extended treble response of the Black Hawk PU has a lot to do with the focussed magnetic pattern that you get from the blades and the architecture of the coils, so it will still have noticeably more treble presence than a PAF style humbucker.

I actually wanted a bit of brightness in the tone, but I think the ceramic bridge option might have pushed the sound that I was going for, just a bit passed what I wanted. I'll try the alnico version. Thanks, again.

Warpig will do fine in alder-maple-maple.
+1...I have C pig in alder/maple axe and itīs fine combo...Tight meaty lows,bit throaty but fully present mids,crispy highs...I never heard Black Hawk personaly but from reviews I think it will be less agressive less compressed and also less saturated than WP...What about Miracle Man?It seems to be good match for styles you described...

I really like the warpig, and that is the other pickup that I was seriously considering. Not sure the miracle man would give me the sound Im looking for in this guitar. Maybe I'll try the alnico black hawk and go from there.

I put an alnico black hawk in my George Lynch guitar to take away some of the brightness or more rather give it some more beef and bottom end. Worked very well. I was tempted to geta warpig but I cant imagine it doing pinches and divebombs etc in the bridge very well... too dark im guessing but I have a specific tone in mind so depends what youre after.
