Title: Set af Humbuckers for Jackson SL2H
Post by: MBKorn on March 19, 2013, 07:14:47 AM
Hi there

Im considering to put in two BKP ind this beauty.

Im considering to place a MM ind the bridge but would like some ideers for the neck. im thing of this: MM, AM og CS.

Im playing metal through a Peavey 5150 and would like a neck PU there is the perfect mach for my guitar, there will be tuned in C/B.

I have also a Jackson SL1 with a MM ind the bridge and my ideer is to use switch between the two guitars when i have numbers in the different tuning.

Like my sound when its not to hiss, like when there is some buttom and some punch. I like when the mid is a little scooped (make that on my amp).

Some ideers?

These forums can be a bit slow sometimes, but people normally get around to answering you eventually.

If you like scooped mids then the MM or the CS should work for you. I have a Cold Sweat set in a Carvin DC727, and while I wouldn't describe them as 'scooped', they do have nice, smooth mids. I do tend to EQ in a tad more mids on my amp, and the bridge gets a nice crunch while the neck stays nice and smooth. The CS neck really is a good metal neck pickup, perfect for soloing and it also cleans up really well.

I've no experience with the MM, however, a friend had a set in an Ibanez RG and seemed to like them. They pulled of old school metal sounds and newer metalcore sounds (Killswitch, All That Remains type stuff) incredibly well. I've heard them described as being similar to an EMG 81, I don't know how true that is, but for scooped metal sounds, you can't really go wrong there.

So it all comes down to if you want some smoother mids in the CS, or totally scooped mids in the MM.

The CS-neck gets a lot of praise here being one of the best contemporary neckmodels. It is great for pristine cleans and fluid leads.

Thanks for your answer guys

But how will the CS fit in this guitar (maple neck-thru). Will it be to bright? And what would a good alternativ be?

About the MM. Is that the best choise for this kind of guitar or what would a great alternative be for the bridge?

thanks, michael

if you want clean neck tones as well as overdriven sounds them CS will be best and yes in my opinion fine with maple neck through.

for higher octane solo type stuff on neck you may prefer MM neck pickup - fat , fluid tones, but not so easy for great clean tones

How is the CS compaired to the HD for the neck in this king of axe? And is there other great opportunties?

what about the bridge. What would a great PU be for som metal ... not to hiss in the sound. And what would a great set be (mixed is ok)?

Im very bad in descriping my sound, but hope you can give me some ideers anyway

I think you made a good choice with the Miracle Man for the bridge.

As regards the neck pickup: I would not pair the Holydiver neck with the Miracle Man bridge - it will be significantly lower in output. The Cold Sweat neck would be the better fit - it has the same magnet and wire gauge as the HD neck but more turns. So you will get a better output balance with the MiM and more mids to facilitate singing lead tones as well as good clean tones.

Other opportunities for the neck would be VHII (more vintage but a bit higher output than CS neck), Emerald (no personal experience with that), or Crawler (also very vintagey sounding).

The only combination I actually tried with the Miracle Man bridge is the Cold Sweat neck.

Cheers Stephan

Maybe a ceramic Nailbomb: supertight, good mids, not as scooped as the MM.
I would also have a look at the Blackhawk. Might fit your bill.

I'm not a specialist in the metal-area, but detuned and considering the Peavey is not superbright the C-Bomb should do a good job in a Jackson.

ok
Here i am now

I ame almost stocked on the CS for my neck

Im still not sure for the bridge. MM, C-bomb or maybe a warpig?

I like when the sound not is to fizzy in the top.
I like to feel a punch in my stomack
I like my tone defined, not muddy. (im maybe a little sloppy in my playing)
I play through a peavey 5150 with a Jackson sl2H (Alder body, quartersawn eastern hard rock maple neck-thru-body)

Im playing different kind of metal. Keywords: melodic parts, palmmute, trash and modern, NOT slow down etc.

Thanks again

The Miracle Man bridge will tick all the boxes you mentioned. No experience with the other two models though.
