Title: Getting something with Singlecoil pickups, maybe
Post by: Deadlock on April 09, 2013, 02:33:32 PM
Hi all!

I've had my guitar with my two trusty Alnico Nailbombs for a while now, and recently I realised something. I find myself to be using the coil split option of my guitar so much lately, that I barely play with the pickups as they are. I will probably keep my current guitar, as I'm still a metalhead when LISTENING to music, but when I play it's very different! Perhaps a sign that I need to get something with true singlecoil pickups. Then it's probably time to get a stratty kind of guitar :)

I can't really give an example of an artist with a strat tone I truly like. There is definitely something I like but I can't find it right now :P Listening to the clips on this site, I have three pickups I like. Sorted from most to least liked, I like the Mother's Milk, the Apache and the Slow Hand.

-- Mother's Milk because it's so chimy on its clean sound, and the overdriven clip sounds really interesting!
-- Apache sounds rounded, but not as good as the Mother's Milk on clean. Overdriven I find it somewhat similar to Mother's Milk.
-- Slow Hand's clean I find interesting because the clean has that driven feel to it while sounding somewhat chimy. I like it's lead tone, but I like the other two better (strange eh?)

Other than just clean playing, I want to use it for rock sounds too, as I really like the overdriven/distorted singlecoil sound aswell! Thinking of this need, this list seems a little off, as I like the MM and Apache, but I probably "should" want the Slow Hand since it has higher output and all, but I can't get away from the feeling that the vintage pickups' characteristics are very appealing to me, at least when listening to the clips.

Any advice on the matter? Every bit of help is appreciated!
