How do folks, not been around for ages cause I've been a busy bee studying, how's everyone been?
I was burgled a few weeks ago and I'm now trying to replace what went missing (a 60th Anniversary US Precision and a Parker Fly Classic).
The bass I want to replace relatively directly. The guitar less so - I still have guitars to gig with - but I fancy maybe a fun cheapy rascal.
I'm budgeting about £1000 for the bass but if something is really worth it I'd go to about £1500. I want either a precision or something similar. I'm pretty indifferent to finishes and am comfortable enough with either a maple or rosewood neck. Just want a straightforward but good quality workhorse rock bass.
Guitar wise. As I say, I don't NEED to replace it - and I don't want to get another fly as I'm not going to budget anywhere near to what I'd need to pay to get one similar plus all the mods I'd done to it. So really I'm taking the opportunity to look around for something fun for playing in the house. Probably Fender or Fender-ish. No humbuckers. Budget up to about £400. It might get used to record some stuff a humbucker can't do but more than likely it'll just be a pick up and play toy.
So, anyone got any ideas of nice bargains along these lines?

Sorry to hear that, that sucks :(
I don't know anything about basses so I can't help there
If you're lucky you might find an MIJ tokai or godin for around the £400. The MIM classic series is quite nice too, but not sure you can find them for £400.

I reckon you could get a Classic series Strat or Tele on eBay for £400 without too much problem - it's a buyer's market now!
Or maybe a Classic Player, with slightly upgraded, more modern specs (flatter radius, bigger frets etc). They're pretty good value I think.

Soory to learn of the burglary.
I'll have a word with the bass player in my band. He has a Precision ( a Deluxe I think) that he mentioned to me that he might be selling.

What about the stingray copy I made

Awesome bass - so sad that it's not getting played
Basslines pickup and circuit
circuit has bass, treble and mid
volume has slap contour on push pull
switch does series/parallel and single coil

Thanks guys. And cheers for the condolences. Thankfully it could have been much worse.
Jonathan, that's a bit pretty for my tastes, unfortunately. I like things I'm perfectly happy to smack off of mic stands (and bandmates!). If you had one sat about in a solid colour I'd be liable to swither on it but I had a look on your site earlier and I saw that was the only bass. Unless you've anything else not online?

I've got a '72 Tele Custom reissue (with pickup and bridge upgrades) if you want a Tele for £450 posted up North of the border.
I've also modified the neck pickup so that the tone control variably splits the neck humbucker for more tonal options.
The bridge is a Fender USA type with brass saddles and the bridge pickup is a Broadcaster type made by another small-production UK company.
PM me if you're interested, comes with a tweed gigbag for that real old-school metal look
Pisser about the robbery, saw that on your FB page - barstewards!!!!

This one...
Mind, its got the original 'wide range' humbucker back in there now.
Also, the pinup girl is a waterside and would come off in 5 mins.
Plus, since I know you'll dig this band, it has a Primate sticker on the back - again, if you want, this can easily be removed. However, I think it gives it voodoo punk vibes

Bass wise in that price range I believe you could get a Dingwall Combustion
-
At that price for the bass I think you really have your pick of the litter. I'm definitely partial to Fender basses in my limited experience with bass guitar. Don't think you can go wrong with anything they do.

Found myself a 1974 P bass. Job done.
-
That sounds exactly the kind of bass to suit you, I imagine.
Still considering a new guitar?

I'm sorry to hear about this theft! I hope justice is eventually done in some form.
For the bass, I have a slightly beaten up Hohner B2A. Its alot less than your budget, but I like the sound and its not unwieldy due to the small body.

The bass player in my band is thinking of selling but obviously you are sorted- nice choice by the way.

Ok, I'm jealous now. That's a beautiful bass!
-
That bass looks super cool. Lots of mojo! Congrats :D
-
That looks well used. Interesting that it has the cover over the bridge. I have one I've had new from a few years later and the bridge and pickup covers were removed fairly quickly though I still have them stashed away somewhere.

beautiful!
