Ok - excuse the wordplay for any culinary types out there :D
Were talking Bullion as in Gold(top) made for stock, rather than Boullion (vegetable) stock for the cooking pot.
Got a couple of guitars that I haven't really shown off that are sat in stock , and really need a bit of attention
I'll show them off together as they share a similar colour scheme in part.
Okay first up is one of our Lion Special guitars - thinner bodied
Made from two pieces of ash with no chambering so the weight is still pretty solid.
Teamed with a maple neck the guitar sonically has more of that Fender like cut to it.
This allowed us to fit Bare Knuckle Aftermath pickups which have a lot of tight saturated midrange resulting in a guitar that seems balanced frequency wise but with a compressed midrange growl.
Unusually we decided on a charcoal burst for the back of the guitar which may seem an unusual choice to go with a goldtop from a traditional standpoint but seems to work very well.
Many people even think the back of the guitar is much prettier than the front - and who am I to argue?
Hardware is sperzel and Tonepros, CTS pots Orange drop caps and switchcraft jack
I still need to pop the truss rod cover back on
Have a look: Guitar is for sale at a special price of £1800.

The other guitar is a Tiger Swamp Ash Special
swamp ash body and maple neck with a rosewood board
Sperzel tuners , Earvana nut and a rather fab Hipshot bridge
Pickups are 59 PAF types

Both guitars look really great. I would be interesting to se the lion's front with the charcoal burst as the back looks very cool and special.
-
That lion is absolutely gorgeous - I think that might be my favourite of all the ones you've posted here so far! The price is pretty tempting too. Fantastic!

Completely agree with that, it's absolutely beautiful. And the back is just as, if not more, beautiful than the front.
-
I really like the Tiger. That's an absolutely beautiful guitar.

As I want to save for a Laser cutter more than anything and raising funds is a pre-requisite for that - make me an offer if either tempt you - I'm a PM away
In fact that may be true for many of the guitars that I have in stock (obviously not the 20th anniversary Lions 8))
This was a template we had to have done at our local signmakers/engravers who has a laser-cutter

I'm loving the Tiger, as you might expect ;)
I've got a nice pair of PRS pickups that would scream in it too. Hmmm....
-
Wow!
The stained back of that Lion is just stunning! That wood combination sounds really interesting in a single cut. Is the guitar brighter because it's thinner too?
Both of the guitars gives me GAS! :D

I like the Lion Special best 8)

Go on Dave - you know it makes sense :P

Wow, that Tiger looks great. You should try using that finish with swamp ash on the front.
-
very nice :D
-
I'm now fantasizing about a swamp ash tele with the finish of the back of the Tiger and nickel/chrome hardware.... :D
-
They are both beautiful!
-
Both very classy. Must get a Goldtop one day.
-
Both look great, but I'm loving that ash! :D
-
Really like the back of the Lion, awesome job as always Jon :)
-
I've never been a huge fan of goldtops, most look too yellow to me, but I really like both of those!

We're making another pair of the Korina Vs (one for customer and one for stock)
-
I have decided I'm too small for Vs (or they're too big for me), but I do love that look of the korina, gold hardware, white scratchplate and black parts.
-
I love the look of this V, but I can't get on with V's and a lot of Gibson-style guitars, especially when they have batnecks.

The joy of custom built is that you order the neck that suits you.

That Vee is a beautiful thing, forget about it!!!

Fully agree. I hope to have one of those one day, with black pickguard and open coil Mules. Still a dream for now.

I keep trying to come up with a design which will be shaped like a Les Paul Special, or similar, but with everything else based on a '58 Flying V - korina, gold hardware, strings through body, white scratchplate etc.
The hardest thing is deciding between a single cutaway or double cutaway - I favour the latter, but I always worry about the strength of the neck joint.

Like it - thats what I did with my Lion Special model
Just like a Flying V except LP shaped

Don't think you'd need a doublecut to cope though Philly

:D Lookin' good! Is that a new one? I remember the first one with zebra pickups and a slightly more pronounced sunburst?
I wasn't thinking of the doublecut in terms of upper fret access, it's more that I want to (somehow) have a control layout similar to a V, with the switch on the scratchplate, so that's better on a doublecut (maybe like the PRS Mira layout).
I'm also obsessed with having a neck joint/heel just like a '58 V - such an elegant design, the way the body extends behind the end of the neck! - so again I'm visualising a doublecut shape. I think you did something quite similar on the Fatcat.
Anyway  ...... I really like the concept, but it's hard to figure exactly how to do it without it looking awkward and contrived.
Am I right in thinking those original Vs had an extremely long tenon, going right under the neck pickup and partway under the scratchplate?
