I mean it this time, Anymore i want to buy, won't be bought before i sell others, i think a buying to selling ratio of 2:1 should keep the girlfriend happy
anyway, the collection in its entirety before things start to go

Very nice collection you got there. Shame you have to break em up!
-
Too much muff, the skreddys are mostly going, because i got the sounds they do covered, one of the TS's may go as well, although i like having an 8 and a 9, they don't sound different enough.
also i want to get a POD UX1 and maybe start doing some home recording, said i wouldn't buy unless i sold lol
-
Very nice! Stay strong, brother; you can do this! :)
-
but it hurts so bad :?
-
nice :D
-
You just need somewhere to hide them. A humble set of drawers on the outside...

...and that's not all of them...

Ah ha! I just showed your photos to my girlfriend! now she finally believes some people have it worse than me! I'm allowed to buy stuff again!

A true happy ending :D

I'm waiting for Philly to show us a photo (or two) of what is lurking under his bed.
-
It's good to sell gear, feels liberating! I'm in the middle of a big cull at the moment
-
Well you have them already and have already spent the money so whats the harm in keeping them. You might need them in ean emergency so best hold onto them.

Nah, I never really got into pedals Ian. Probably just as well..... :?
Looking at the impressive picture above, I'm reminded that I used to have one of those Tube Drivers, and I've still got an early-'80s Tube Screamer. Apart from that I've only got a handful of pedals - a couple of Visual Sound things (Route 66 and H2O), a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, a Korg Pitchblack tuner, a Loco chorus, a Morley wah and a DOD(?) flanger. I think that's about it. Maybe there's a Boss distortion somewhere.
-
Seeing those collections, I suddenly feel quite modest. 8)

you can never have too many pedals

A pedal emergency.. hmm.. thats a great angle :D i shall meditate on that and come up with something for when my girlfriend exercises her perogative to change her mind for no good reason
The TS9 is early 80's and the 808 is a keeley mod, but really there's not much in them and i'd be happy with either one, plus i could turn a decent profit given what i bought the 808 for and what they go for now. this is the more realistic me speaking, the one who says "in honesty, you would still be spoilt for choice with a few less". but there's the other me who says "look! so pretty.."
In all honesty, most of them do something different enough to justify keeping them for those times when i'm not loving whats on the current board, i like to think of it as having a pool to draw from, in terms of OD/Dist/Fuzz anyways. There's a couple of essentials like the Droptune and the Brigadier that will always stay.

I totally agree :D I have always considdered myself as a pedal guy that likes funny and strange effects, but right now I mostly own drive pedals. I only got a Boss ph-2 phaser and a Digitech Whammy 4 that's not drive related so I got to get some more
The Strymon Timeline is high on my list as I recently sold my delay pedal and the Pigtronix Mothership seems like one hell of a kick for some weird cool action, but the downside is that both are pricey.

With the Timeline you don't need to buy a pedal for the next year, as it will keep you busy with all those soundsculpting options. :)

I think my first year with the Timeline would be figuring out how the pedal works as it has so many options :D

I was looking at the timeline, but didn't buy it when i saw the brigadier, which i am blissfully happy with. However, i will say that am ridiculously impressed with all Strymon stuff. It is the first pedal I've managed to find to work properly in a line level loop AND have an analog dry thru signal.
If you want something that does everything the El Cap and Brig does, plus more, for less than double the price of either unit, then go for the timeline. Strymons stuff is incredible. I just didn't need all the options the Timeline would have provided
I know everyone goes nuts for the Cap, and the brig seems to be the forgotten, less hot, older sister.. but.. for me it had exactly what i was looking for.

The Brig looks a bit easier to dial in, but I'm not sure as I don't own any Strymon (yet). The Capistan delivers many different sounds, but I wonder if I all need them in a coverband. Now I'm using an old AD9 that I use only for slapback and 300ms for some solo's. Works ok for the time being. I wish just some higher delay time. I think the TC Electronics Flashback would be a cheaper, but good option. Who can tell what delaybrand I'm using in a bandmix?
-
Well.. the brig would be closer to the AD9 than the cap, i think the brig is seen as less sexy because it's an analogue sim and the parameters maybe aren't as mojo as what the cap has (flutter wah etc), but i was less interested in that than i was by the dotted 8th and triplet intervals the brig did.
Also you get the higher delay times with an analogue delay sound but without the disadvantages of the losses you get with genuine analogue delays. It can do up to 5 sec delays which no analogue delay can do. An advantage it has over the TC is that it also has a tap tempo switch built in. However, you're right, who can tell in a band mix. The thing that sealed the deal for me with the brig was line level operation and the analog dry signal, so only the actual delay was digital, which didn't bother me at all, as i have the mix knob set very low. but it had to work in the loop for me as i can't stand delay thats being distorted.
As i say, the advantage of the timeline is everything the Brig and Cap does can be accessed, plus you can store your own presets, multiple ones i believe
-
I watched the vids of the Brig. It seems easier to operate then Capistan and has all the (modern) functions you need as an addition to a classic AD9.
-
mmmh, having owned the brigadier and now the el cap I find the el cap to be far better, it's just smoother sounding and more analog, the brig was great for clean modulated delays though, I didn't like the feature that it actually degrades the sound on long echos where it sound like 8 bit distorted sounds, in the end I sold it and bought the el cap almost immediately.
-
I totally agree that the Capistan sounds more lush. At the moment I just need a longer delay setting to support soloing. I my current band I don't need landscape filling delay/echo.
-

Thats a feature that can be turned off though, if you don't like it, the point was to have the character of an analogue delay without the drawbacks (if you choose not to have them because they're controllable). The El Cap is, obviously, a tape delay, which is going to sound different. Put a real tape delay and analog beside each other, and they will. It's whatever suits you more i guess, for me the features of the Brig won out, because i wasn't really fussed about the wow, tape flutter etc. I was fussed about having dotted 8ths etc.
I think the delays on the El Cap are just as long though

having owned a real tape delay, the el cap sounds equal to one if not better, yes it can get really long delays, the tap tempo also works great on it. Don't get me wrong though the brig was still a great pedal, it's what works for you that's what is most important.

Oh yeah, definitely, right now the blue sky reverb is higher on my list (wonder what i'll have to sell to justify that) but the cap is in the future too. The Brig was more essential, the cap would be a luxury, in my eyes, for those that favour tape sounds it'd be the other way around
