I am excited. Going for week. Going to see a bunch of bands. It's all last minute. The closest I've been is Albany, for about an hour. Just letting you all know. ha!
-
When? I am here, waiting to give you a tour!
-
I fly in with my friend on the 16th pretty late to Newark and then I think we are staying around there for one night, then we are staying in some place by a venue called Webster Hall for a few days. We're going to see some bands on the 18th and 19th, my mate from Detroit might fly out to chill, some friends from DC might be up. It's going to be good. It's also my 30th on May 14th. I'm kind of tagging along with my friends trip and shes out there until the 28th, so I have no idea what I'll end up doing. Once I get there and get my head around travelling about I should be cool to go see stuff.

Remember to tell Homeland Security that you're in no mood to be putting up with any of their bullshiteeeee as you are busy and have lots to do...
They're good like that and very accomodating, just remember to look them square in the eye and make your point firmly, you'll get through on a nod....
:?
Good luck with that and enjoy the trip. NY is great.

I do freak out a bit at that point. I tend to wear long sleeves and cover my tattoos and call everyone "sir". There are stamps in my passport that I need to explain creatively, so I don't mess about with border control.
-
Just tell them you've received guidance from "Afghan Dave" on gaining entry to the US & practiced responses to interrogation via an on-line forum... It's all good.
Your time in NYC should be the "bomb", and the experience totally "radicalised"... just remember to avoid using "key words" online as the NSA tend to be "extremists" and see "jihadists" everywhere.... :P
-
I hope you have a great time.
-
sweet jesus I'm gonna get black bagged as soon as my feet touch the ground.

When I went to Forida I had to get interviewed on my own because I had a different surname to the rest of my group, it was pretty intense, I kind of felt guilty for no reason.

Haha that sounds like one of the fastest ways to get personal with the guy who has the largest fingers in the US.

When I was going from Vancouver to Seattle my friends said to cover my tattoos because they have problems on the border sometimes. It's because of bike gangs runnings guns over the border so sometimes people in tatty clothes with tattoos get pulled up even if they have no association.
When I got to the border I had a sweater on to cover mine up, but then when I had to buy a visa I rolled up my sleeves. The one guy was staring at my arm and I suddenly realised I'd blown my cover as a non tattooed person! Then he said "is that Robert Johnson" and pointed to my tattoo. I said yes... then he was all like, "gotta love the blues, maaaaan!" and let me go right ahead.

I've been questioned for 8hrs once and 12hrs on another occassion.
My Dad's an American too and I've been visiting since I was ten... they took copies of my credit cards, dug out the history of everything and I sat and answered every question with a smile.
I haven't been back for years.. and I'm not looking forward to ever dealing with immigration again.
So sad, because I love that place. :(

Damn man, that sucks.
When UKIP start running the country we'll get our own back though.

Yeah, then we can do it to the French!

Imagine being Flemish and trying to get in! You'd be in Room 101 before you can say "slagroom"!

I walk past Webster Hall every day. If you are staying down there, you are either in NOHO or the East Village. Very much part of the NYU dorm neighbourhood.

Sure, just let me know. I pretty much run around Manhattan all day and make my own schedule, so I have a certain amount of flex.

Have fun, New York is a blast!
-
I am from close to liverpool.
Most cities pale in comparison. New York has a lot of expectations to meet.
I am not 100% serious with these statements.
-
Wow, shocked by all these tales about immigration and border controls, I had no idea it was like that (I have been to the USA, but I was 12 so I guess I was unlikely to be seen as potential trouble....)
Anyway, have a good time, once you get in!

What bands are you going to see?
-
Judge, Madball, Breakdown, Altercation, Crown Of Thornz, District 9, kill your idols, indecision, bitter end... and a few more.
-
I fly out to England on the 14th. We might be passing in Newark! Have a great time in NY
-
Looks like the weather has decided to skip Spring again this year, so you are for a rare treat: a NYC Summer!
-
Thats awesome.
The weather here is bipolar. I got some address for where I'll be because I had to fill in this ESTA thing. west 25th street? Chelsea? I dunno.
-
That's Chelsea, but nowhere near Webster Hall!
-
Is it not? haha. I should probably find out what that place is before I get to the border.
-
You'll have to check out these guys, because of course they'll be in a local bar  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgZHXF-FaOw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgZHXF-FaOw)
Sure you'll have a great time, I'd love to go to NYC some time.

America. I am inside you.

I'm back!
NYC was a blast. I did some power tourism one morning and walked to the Empire State Building, Times Square and Grand Central Station. I didn't much care for Times Square I have to say. The Hotel we stayed in was right by Madison Square Park. A short walk to Union Square and to Webster Hall. I had a ride to Santos Party House in China Town on the Friday. The weekend was spent at Webster Hall.
Monday we rode a Bolt Bus to Washington DC. DC was a blast. I saw a bunch of friends and went to a few museums.
Took an Amtrak to Newark which got held up 1.5 hours. Then my flight left a little late being being delayed 3.5 hours due to the nonsense with the plane catching fire at Heathrow. After I landed I went home for 2 hours and then got a bank holiday weekend train to liverpool. Euston was BONKERS. I've done enough travelling for a while... at least until I need to get back to London.
