Here's something I threw together, it's double tracked and the playing is a bit sloppy so don't be too harsh. I couldn't crank the amp much past bedroom levels so the bass end was hard to get in the recording. See what you think...

That is absolutely AWESOME riffage. What amp you using. Great playing. Love the tone. Evil

1990 Les Paul std with Warpig >>> guitar lead >>> high gain amp of my own design*
* it's loosley based on a Bogner Ecstacy but with some mods/tweaks to my own liking, 6550s in the output stage and an ECC81 in the PI stage (instead of the more common ECC83)
Glad you liked the clip - its sounds MUCH more evil in person.

Awesome clip. Really impressed also with the amp! you got any pics?
-
yer wicked clip dude- tone and playing.

That's honestly one of the best tones I've ever heard. How can I get my hands on one of those amps? Is it actually a modded ecstacy or totally custom built? If it's the former I wanted one anyway, but if it's the latter that's another few grand on my "to buy" list. If only I had a job, or more than £50 in the bank...

I dig that riff man, it's pretty funky for metal! :)
-
thanks for all the praise  :D
Credit where credit is due, the Warpig really transformed this amp from great to f@ckin awesome!!!
The amp started life sometime in the late 60s as a Simms Watts head. I stripped it back to the transformers and rebuilt it... new bias supply, preamp, HT rail etc. The heater wiring on the valves is pretty much all that's original and even that's been modded for lower hum.
There were three schematics I worked from... Mesa Dual Recto / Soldano SLO100 / Bogner Ecstacy - there isn't much difference between the OD channels on each of those amps so I tried them all settling on the Bogner. It still wasn't quite 'there' so I've spent the last six months (at least) tweaking it to taste.
I've only just added a clean channel in the last couple of weeks - it's based on the classic Fender Twin tone but using a 6SL7 preamp valve instead of an ECC83.
Oh, and of course the output stage uses 6550s - just the two of them at the minute as it's still mega loud at the half-volume setting... four is just mad
As for the funk (Willo), thats my kinda style... 60s rock, punk, metal, blues all mixed together with a healthy dose of AC/DC. I'm a riff guy and riffs must GROOVE imo.
At the risk of using this forum for self publicity (if I may for a second), I'll take on any custom builds or mods on a £POA basis. I work full time so don't expect anything in a hurry (lol).

-
They truly are pigs of war- nice one
-
HTH, could you mod any amp dude?
-
...
-
lead parts? - sure, I can do that. I'm pretty busy over the next week so you'll probably forget all about it then see another thread called 'HTH's Warpig demo with lead parts' (heh) :D
Can I mod 'any' amp? - I'll certainly have a look at any valve amp, tranny amps are a whole other ball game.
I gonna look into small scale production once I'm happy with this amp - just hand-built one-offs.
-
Nice and in my face - I like it. :)
-
I headbanged all the way through that clip. Nice growly tone.
-
great tone, sounds like a killer amp!!
i'm tempted for some warpigs now..
-
Build me an amp man, that shite is so dark yet "slap in the face." Mesa Boogie amps have that darkness but lag that in your face snappy treble. What would be the closest sounding amp to yours then?

Sounds good.....where are my horns......here they are....
