This means I have to sell my guitars and put the proceeds into stocks and shares right? Settle down, buy a dog, buy a cat. Get a cinquecento (I can't even drive). I got a hair cut and bought some socks and undies from marks & sparks to celebrate.

Congratulations!
You DON'T have to...
It's OK, over the coming years you will lose all your male friends as they abandon both your friendship and their own dreams for the illusion of security and maturity offered by a marriage & mortgage...
Then..
In the years 36-39 they will gradually contact you again as their marriages/relationships fail but by then they will be fatter and much balder with little disposable income living in a rented room.
Maybe you'll be able to see them once every 3 months or at Christmas.
If you manage to resist the urge to follow the lemmings your chances of staying free are greatly increased each year... Rejoice! :o :o

This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

hahahah!
I'm sure most of what you just mentioned happened to most of my friends in in their early 20's!

But not to YOU....
Why?
30 is a great age to realise you can do anything you want...

True. Shame its taken so long to work that out!

I've always bought my socks and undies from Marks & Sparks.... :|
Not doing very well on selling my guitars, though, and it's a long time since I was 30.
Despite the depressing picture painted by Afghan Dave (almost none of those things happened to me), happy birthday!
-
marks does boss undies, lar!
It's where the cool kids go.
cheers!
-
Don't listen to Afghan, he's a cynical old sod.
I turned 42 at the weekend. I have a wife, a family, a nice house and a decent enough job. And I still buy guitars, still see friends (OK, not so much these days, but the special ones are always there), and occasionally join bands and play gigs.
M&S all the way for underwear, or Debehnams. "Specialist" underwear can be bought from Mr Afghan at discount prices.
-
OK... I'll admit it... I shop at M&S quite a lot. I even keep an online wishlist.
But apart from that I'm still free of mid life malise and I'm about to turn 40 (or as I consider it 39 "reloaded")
So bring it! :P

I'm greatly enjoying my 30s so far!
Its true I have put on a little weight and invested in a cat. I quite like the cat though.
Theres no rules and you can do whatever you like as Dave says. I have slowed up a little, but I still hit it hard.. harder than most of my mates did in their 20s. I think being a musician helps with all this.
-
I'll be 30 by the end of the year, feels like I'm losing my cool but then my uni flat mates don't even know who Bill and Ted are let alone Wayne's World!!! On the plus side by the time I finish my degree I should have a good career that will support me to a comfortable standard and if my gym progress stays on track I'll have a hot body ;) Basically I'll be the full package so maybe I'll find the right woman to settle with, not any woman, if not I'd rather be happy than be married to someone I hate.
I'm growing rather fond of Charles Wyrwhitt suits and shirts but Marks and Spencer do some rather nice suits for the price, especially ones in navy. Their shirts seem to be of good quality too if some what limited in selection when it comes to the slim fit range. One also recalls some rather nice leather goods but their sock designs are no match for a pair of Peter Jones signature socks granted the price difference does reflect this.
-
30 kind of passed me by, There was a brief moment when I thought it was going to go all marriage and kids, then that passed. I think I hit contentment at around 35, though for the last 6 years I'll admit I've got rather large and unfit. 40 smarted more than I thought it would. Still happy though and I didn't even notice 41 (to be fair someone reminded me the day before...).
-
50's the next big one for me, unfortunately.... :?
-
i have some pretty cool simpsons and beano/dandy socks from m&s
happy birthday :)
-
Happy birthday- my gawd, you are slightly younger than my eldest son!
-
today i slept in until 4pm. Then I met a dude i tored the USA with. I went to some not so exciting places, but its all about who you're with, not where you are... right? Good day. tomorrow will be just as good I hope. and then... NYC!

No matter how old you get... you can still have a pink gingham check dress shirt of awesomeness... with a spread collar!!!

You can have it..... but why would you want it? :?

JDC owned by Philly.
Cracking stuff!
Happy Birthday, DMoney. Afghan might just be right about some of that, though :)
-
My plan was to wear it under a light grey waistcoat and trousers with a knitted sock tie for when I'm on nights out chatting up sexy ladies, roll up the sleeves and the gingham pattern will make my upper arms look bigger while the white part of the gingham check will catch the light more so I'll get noticed, the points of the spread collar will match the shoulder line which will help broaden the shoulders (yes I've nerdified men's fashion to the point of excess and I'll probably have to buy another one if I keep making serious gains in the gym)
You know you want one

JDC, you're a genius! Wearing that on a night out you definitely won't have to worry about getting involved in relationships. :D
-
^
JDC, your "fashion thing" always leaves me surprised, bewildered.... but entertained. :D
Presumably you could also stuff that "knitted sock tie" down your trousers for the Biff Byford effect, as a last ditch effort when the evening's going badly.
-
Afghan Dave is right about the relationship thing... I had 5 women on the go before xmas, down to 2 now, might settle with the one I get on really well with but then my brain thinks if I keep progressing as I am at the gym then I can get a hotter girl. Thing is I also don't want to be in my mid 30s still chasing women.
-
I'm staring down 30 later this year, I can appreciate what you're going through. I asked the wife (I'm a few years older) if it was weird to be with someone who's almost 30, she was happy to remind me that from her perspective I've been almost 30 since the day we met lol
-
..Thing is I also don't want to be in my mid 30s still chasing women.
That's the great thing.. If you keep in shape, keep having fun and don't settle down. In your 30s, women (of all ages) CHASE YOU!

Not true.
(Although I wasn't doing the "having fun" bit.... that's alien to my nature. :| )
-
You have to be out and about where the women are... Even the finest Tiger doesn't catch any prey in the Zoo. :D
-
They'll chase if you're pleasing on the eye, I'm at a point of nearly filling a small band t-shirt, they used to be a sack on me, so you can tell I workout, still need a fair bit more size so I'll keep lifting until I reach my genetic limit (yes I did the calculation)
I have a friend who's 6'1" 195lbs <10% bodyfat aka tall, big chest, small waist, six pack. He has good facial symmetry too, women literally throw themselves at him, it's insane to watch even the hottest girls turn to drool when he chats them up, he could easily keep going until his 40s and not settle.
-
So I've been wasting my time practising guitar, that's what you're saying?

The key thing there, if anything, is probably the 6'1". Women do seem to go for tall guys.
On the other hand, he might just have an attractive personality?

He has as much banter as a plank of wood
-
Ah well, there goes that theory.
These girls he's impressing can't be the brightest of sparks.

I can never figure out if you're being serious or if your tongue is firmly in your cheek. :?
-
Serious, living in a big city full of students with a flat close to the centre, decent body, dress sense, swag and going out approaching 20+ women a night twice a week helps a lot
Dating = numbers game aka approach more and/or be more attractive

I can't believe you just said "swag" PDT_038 but apart from that I agree.

Getting old is great. From my 55 year old perspective 45 year old women are like teenagers to me - and they're a lot more fun.
-
LOL 30
My oldest son is graduating from med school this year...
I'm reminded of what my Mother once told me. She asked what I wanted to do when I got older. I said. "When I grow up I want to be a musician." She replied "Don't be silly, you can't do both!"
  Haven't grown up yet.
-
I got a mortgage at 22, engaged at 23, married at 26 and I was already fat by then so I guess I was ahead of the pack ;-P
I dunno where my pants are from. I haven't bought a pair for ten years they just materialize in my pant and sock draw. They must come from somewhere.
50's the next big one for me, unfortunately.... :?
Really? The way you go on about your age I thought you were much older :-p

Blimey, is it possible to be much older?
-
The next big one for me is 60 (though its more than a year away). However since I refuse to grow up it doesn't really make a difference. I still fancy women in their 20's, though older women now have more appeal. The guitars I like are still from the 50's, 60's & 70's really, as are the amps, even though I have newer stuff. I still go to lots of concerts, but prefer to have a seat rather than standing and I also perfer to have a hotel room rather than camping! Other than that I have much shorter hair which is greyer and thinner but mentally I am still stuck in my 20's. Getting older doesn't scare me as much as growing up does!
-
Early 40's here. I made the decision that I don't enjoy exercising every day, but that I do enjoy food quite a lot. Like a sprinter is built for going fast, I'm built for pie.
As for settling down, tried it for a bit. Same goes for growing up. Didn't really work out for me. So instead I intend to dick around with sports and race cars for as long as I'm able. I'll think about settling down when I can't do that any more.
I do have a rather non-mainstream outlook on life though it has to be said. More importantly, I'm happy.
