Hey guys! I have a Mothers Milk stock staggered poles in my neck position a Mothers milk reverse wound flat poles in the middle & a Irish tour stock flat poles in the bridge.
Now I have a 'Sultan' flat poles stock neck pick up which im currently not using so Im thinking about putting it in the middle position as Im finding the Mothers milk to bright here.
Does anybody no if theres much difference in the tonal character of the Sultan stock neck & middle pickups, or is it just output that changes??
Also has anyone out there tried switching the neck to the middle position? I would be very interested in your experience on this.
Yours in sound!

As far as I was aware, the middle pickup is basically just a neck version anyway that is wound a shade hotter. Tonally, I think any difference is down to pickup positioning and height adjustment more than anything else. The single coils I use are bridge versions put in the neck and middle positions. The middle pickup is wound just 0.5 more than the neck and its tonal difference is primarily driven by the fact that I have it further away from the strings so it doesn't interfere with my pick.

Hey thanks for the response I appreciate it! Interesting stuff I may just try it then.
Thanks again!

In most single coil sets the neck and middle pickup are very similar and thus interchangeable. Traditionally Fender used identically designed pickups for all positions (I say "designed" because they were not always identically "executed" or "produced"), which worked fine until musicians wanted a warmer/hotter tone for the bridge position mostly. I have swapped neck and middle pickups in HSS sets to get the humcancelling effect and the right coils working in specific positions of the pickup selector and never had an issue with a middle pickup in the neck position and vice versa.
