Title: need a 12ax7 and an EL84 for a EVJ converted into a power-amp

Hi,

in the hopes of having better luck here than with the places i buy tubes from, i'm in the market for new tubes for my Epiphone valve junior.

i'm running it as a sort of power-amp, basically the gain stages of the 12ax7 are paralleled so the master volume doesn't work. i then plug various preamps into the thing to get tones.

the thing is, however, i feel that when i give a bit more output with the preamps, the tone changes, i'd like the preamp to drive the amp into distortion as i run the whole thing into an attenuator, but i need a bit more headroom than what i have now.

there's a tungsol 12ax7 and a jj el84, i was thinking getting a 5751 in the preamp might tame it a bit, but i'm at a loss as what would be a high-headroom EL84...

help!
