Title: 80s Hardrock Comparison - Marshall / Friedman / Cornford
Post by: hunter on May 29, 2013, 09:11:48 PM
Another comparison clip in the same vein as the Crunch Comparison. Tones a bit different.

Marshall: I took advise from HRI guys and dimed Presence, Bass and Mids, turned Treble to 0. => OCD used, less gain on the amp and more from the pedal than on the Crunch clip

Friedman: No boost used, SAT switch on, BE Input

Cornford: No pedals used

I found the Marshall and the Friedman sounding quite similar (only heard the clip through my laptop speakers) but I liked the Friedman a little better. The Cornford sounded raunchier than the two tohers to me. Not sure if I preffer the Friedman or the Cornford though...  :?

Here the difference is closer. Cornford is now the slight favourite :) Like Mr. Air said, it's a bit raunchier. You wouldn't happen to have the 'in front' mixes for these, would you? :)

Awesome hearing these! I've been GASsing for a british voiced head for quite a while now.

Me too, all the time. Everyday it's a different one :-P

I'll see if I can do the "upfront" mixes later today.

I'm liking the Cornford this time around, more aggressive and fuller sounding to my old ears. I could live with any of them though.  8)

Listening with proper speakers, I'm liking both the Cornford and the Marshall now very much. If I had to choose one, maybe I'd now choose the Marshall! This time I actually liked the Friedman the least (which was also very good anyway).

I guess it depends on the day too :) Sometimes I like a certain tone over another, sometimes it's the other way around. For me, the Cornford and Marshall both have the same kind of characterics on the attack, low mids and lows. I sense a certain kind of sponginess? The Friedman sound tighter in its attack. I'g guess that with these settings, it also feels a little 'stiffer' to play too. And whether that is a good or bad thing, depends on the day for me.

Liking the Marshall the most here. Not sure if it was because of the Friedmans too tight response but then again the magic is in the fingers and you certainly know how to play. All 3 amps sound great, I just think the JMP has the most "organic" and rich sound in this clip, if that makes any sense :P
