Hey guys,
I have an idea for the pups I want on my custom axe, but there are a lot of people here with much more experience and knowledge on the subject, so I'm going to run it by you all first.
I'm after tones that are clear, defined and tight as hell, so here are the specs of the build:
Swamp Ash body with a figured maple cap.
Rock Maple set-neck.
Ebony fretboard.
27" scale.
Hipshot fixed bridge.
Graphtech Acoustiphonic Piezo system.
I am having a coil-tap option on the pups, so it should be a very versatile instrument.
I want a tight, aggressive bridge pup which will give me clarity and nice definition, so I was thinking of staying with my current weapon of choice: The Aftermath. Although I did play with the idea of a Painkiller. Think Periphery / Red Seas Fire / Dream Theater for a kind of ball-park rhythm guitar sound.
For the neck, I wanted something that would give me that glass-bottle (for want of a better description) tone that you hear from a lot of Strats, like Knopfler / Hendrix in the cleans, hence the coil tapping, but also be able to hit it hard like a Petrucci kind of tone for full-humbucking leads. So I was thinking along the lines of a Cold Sweat. I'm not sure what else would give me that really kind of glassy clean sound when coil tapped?
Any thoughts?

Not an expert at all in metal-stuff, but I think that would be a good combo. Anyway, if you like the Aftermath, why not. May you could consider a Miracle Man.
-
I was starting to think about MM too, actually, for the neck. Going to take some researching, heh.

My Daemoness is made from Ash with a maple top and maple/maple neck and it sounds $%ing rad. Using a RY/VH2 which I like alot, the VH2 can be a little boomy and louder than the RY but that's just the nature of the RY compared to the VH2. I think Nolly used RY/VH2 for some of the first album? He was the one who suggested it to me, anyway. I'm tempted to get a pair of Blackhawks :-D
-
Aye my Daemoness is almost an exact copy of Nolly's "Pink Destroyer" except that I'm having a 'bucker in the neck position instead of a single coil.
I can't wait.
-
You wont be dissapointed. I was a serial guitar buyer/trader but the Daemoness is the only electric I've owned for 2+years. Totally curved my guitar gas. I'm actually going up to see him Wednesday for a set-up and bring the tuning down half a step.
-
Nice one! Yeah I'm off up to see him on Monday to give him my deposit.
I have to say thanks to Jonathan, though, for inspiring my choice of colour. I've loved that Emerald Lion since I first set eyes on it, so my new baby is going to be an Emerald to black burst on a quilt maple top. Nom!

Good you can give me directions to the new shop then ;)
-
I've been up several times, the trickiest part is parking, if you're driving there. I usually drive straight past the workshop (from the main road, workshop on the left) and up the hill (first left, but "straight on" if you're looking up the road from in front of the workshop). There's usually a couple of spaces to park up the hill that aren't resident's permit spaces. Just a bit of a lung-buster if you're not used to hiking with a guitar case.

Ta :-)

Congrats Nadzilla, will be awesome to see your new beast coming together! i think the AM + CS is a solid pairing especially for the sounds you are after :-)

Aye I can't wait for the progress pics to start rolling in. It'll be a while, but hopefully if I try to forget about it, the time will come around really quickly. :D

Aaaaw soo jealous Nad, I've been dreaming of Daemoness Guitars ever since I discovered them. Keep us updated, will you? :D
-
only two years of waiting then, it'll fly by   glad I got in early and it only took 4 months

The waiting list is a couple of years, so you could put down a deposit now and then save the rest like I'm doing and it'll work out fairly easily I reckon. There's nowt stoppin' ya. Wish I'd done mine sooner but hey, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
-
Yeah, been thinking about that already, however I'm a poor student right now and not even sure if I'll have enough to pay the deposit, besides I own already 9 Instruments, so getting another one certainly won't make me a better player... still that damned GAS
-
Ah fair enough, dude.
Yeah.... dat GAS! Mind you, you could always sell some of the others to fund the Daemoness. *Waits for the "NEVER!!!"*
-
The ones I'd like to sell aren't worth anything at all (G.A.S. moments before I knew what a good guitar is) and the other ones... NEVER!!!
-
Haha! Fair dude.
I'm probably going to sell my Jackson 7 string and my Agile to help fund the final payment, I just need to get around to putting the Jackson back to stock. I'm thinking I might put both guitars back to stock and sell the 7 string Painkiller and the Aftermath set from my Agile, might make more money back that way.

This is the way I got better (but less) gear.
